General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMaybe I'm just having a bad day. Maybe the seven years af daily drip, drip, drip of putrid
narcissism and evil have finally entirely eroded away all of the "nice" I ever possessed. For whatever reason, I cannot any longer in good conscience give any Republican who did not strongly and clearly renounce Trump after the January 6, 2021 insurrection ANY "benefit of the doubt". NONE!
These are not "decent people". They are spineless anti-American cowards who are shamelessly willing to applaud anything Trump spews. They are monster enablers.
I don't like any of them and I don't want any contact or association with them. I will not "work with" any and I will no longer even try to mask my contempt for them. They get in my face at their peril.
Some who disagree will say that "it may take years", but eventually we'll " move on"; "forgive and forget".
I will not live so long!

Their grievances were more about other issues...like their parents, teachers, getting lousy jobs, horrible bosses, and blacks or immigrants getting "all the breaks."
Decided they have had proverbial chips on their shoulders for their entire lives and djt became their heroic tool to voice their whinings -- hell with the country. Now they won't shut up.

(102,652 posts)But, I have to interact with quite a few though I limit my exposure as much as possible. I'm a Democrat in a rural state that was overtaken by magats, I can't function without interacting with some of them. In a place where survival comes before politics, it's a little different.
I also know people who have never paid much attention to politics because they don't understand it and won't be educated no matter how you try to explain that it affects them directly. I have tried with many. If I could be more self sufficient I would not be dealing with most of them. But aging makes you make concessions.
Otherwise, I couldn't argue with the concept at all.

(29,949 posts)Your second paragraph explains my situation entirely. I'm in yuma--armpit of the desert SW and rife with trumpers--packing to move.
A neighbor is helping me (I pay him). He's probably a full-on trumper but doesn't say much around me. However, yesterday--in response to his wondering why I am so set on leaving the country--I told him that it's being turned into a fascist theocratic oligarchy and I don't want to stay around to see it to completion. So we talked politics for a while--turns out he hates the government, thinks it doesn't do anything right, thinks both parties are equally bad, had no knowledge of e.g. the Dominion lawsuit (although he does "know" that Murdoch is a registered Democrat, so there! (???), Citizens United, etc. Gets his news apparently from fecesbook (he was reticent on that point) but claims he doesn't watch faux, only the Fox Business channel. High school education if that. Religious and a gun "enthusiast." There is no way he will become better informed and vote his economic interests. Racist posts on fb.
I told him that guns, abortion, religion, racism, anti-gay and trans etc. are all being used to stir us up and keep us divided and fighting amongst ourselves while the monied interests rip us off. Didn't seem to resonate with him and I sensed I was ticking him off, so ended the discussion. In the absence of facts there is no way he will change his thinking, and he doesn't want to be better informed or change what he thinks.
I just need to be sure to keep off politics until the packing and moving are finished.

I'm un-interested in these people and their excuses for the ugly disturbing mindset.

Now, I think I don't have much longer and I can probably put up with the shit that' going to happen. I won't like it, but the next generation is going to have to turn it around again. I won't live to see it. They will always have my vote, for as long as I last.

This is Putin's wet dream to get revenge, and just think there's that slither of ? Americans who want a totalitarian government and burn everything that our fathers, brothers, uncles, sisters fought for many years ago. We will NOT surrender to these disgusting, and hateful MAGA thugs.

(108,694 posts)No, I don't want to hear anyone's thoughts about woke advertisers or homeless encampments or that the election was stolen. Conservative bullshit is everywhere and it's getting exponentially crazier. Shit, Tucker Carlson is now openly spewing genocidal rhetoric on the air every night and they're banning books and attempting to police thought. I can't support anyone who is in favor of banning books of any kind. It's completely unconstitutional.

(38,726 posts)Trump didn't care. He said the pandemic was all a "hoax." That, and the January 6th riot will be what Trump will
always be remembered for. Trump is a fool and in time he will be remembered for that too. I believe too that when
I remember Donald Trump, I will compare him to a killer who didn't care who he killed. ..
....I am not "nice" when I think of Donald Trump and his crowd. Anyone who supports him now, is anti-democracy and
anti-United States. I will not forgive Trump, ever. (You are not alone) Trump did what he did because he could do it,
and say it because of the same.
.....Imagine the commercials from us whit Trump saying it is all a "HOAX" ....I don't think he can get elected to anything
with those commercials. He may have as much as 25 percent. But the other 75 percent, hate him like we do.

It gives us a much more realistic picture of how things really are. Most Americans don't live in the bigoted, racist, small towns and rural areas, they live in the cities and suburbs. Here, there are way more of us than there are of you.
No, there's not as much crime as you say there is.
Property values are high, conveniences are many, and we don't have to listen to the Trump lies. He'd never hold a rally here, he tried once, no one showed up.
You can complain about all the influence we have in elections. That's how it works. If more people live in the big city, then there will be more votes from the big city. Votes win elections, not wide open spaces. I don't care how big the red spaces are on the map, there are ten times as many people in the blue spaces.
If it wasn't for the taxes we pay, on the salaries we earn that are bigger than yours, you wouldn't have the infrastructure or the benefits that you have.
I'm with you, Atticus. And with the majority who feel the same way all around me here in the great city of Chicago. I'd rather live here than anywhere else.

(16,622 posts)time. The other one worked for a Catholic hospital in Austin and had to go to another facility to get the D&C done because that hospital did not do any "abortions". Both fetuses had no heartbeats. Each woman was trying hard to have children (happily both were able to each have two wonderful children later.) That was 10 years ago. I still do not understand and never will understand why women are not treated as humans but as reproductive units in the state I once loved so much.

I also love, and have visited other cities in the past, as well as amazing deep countryside!
Chicago is the one city I've yet to visit that I might be able to save up for over time. Seattle is probably out of reach travel $$ wise.

Makes for really enjoyable dinners where I'm expected to explain his reasoning. The thing is, it's not reasoning - 99% of the time, he doesn't know jack about any given MAGA/GQP topic. It's always news to him when I bring things up.
He's a propaganda victim, he's 86, and he won't listen to me or any of my siblings. He's not angry about it, he just won't vote for a Dem.
There's a lot of GQP voters like him.

Waiting for your to start, I asked him if he was interested in a career in healthcare like his mother. He said he doesnt like being told what to do and refuses to be vaxxed. Here we are in a courthouse where we had to go through a metal detector to get in the building, and this dope thinks freedom is saying no to being vaxxed. I looked at him and said if you want to be freed, move to Somalia or some other country where its survival of the fittest, and stop hiding behind his mothers skirt.
