Mitch McConnell fell two days ago & is still hospitalized w/very little info.

If it were a Democratic leader, holy crap, it would be all over the news, being led by Faux spreading innuendo and lies. These lies seem to quickly spread to MSM.

What we've been told is that he suffered a concussion. One is not usually hospitalized for a concussion unless it's pretty significant (this according to a medical consultant on CNN yesterday - the only time I heard it discussed (and it was brief).

I googled his condition and came up blank w/any follow up.

It was only revealed much later, just how grave his condition was while he was in Walter Reed?????

All of his Dr.'s were military and didn't dare say anything but what they were told to say. The one Dr. spoke later and was either demoted or kicked out of the medical corps??????

My thinking is that in his frail condition and the fact that he is on blood thinners that he has a brain bleed, and that it doesn't look good, or that they are keeping him on life support????????

I guess time will tell.........who would the Republicans replace him with as their Senate leader.????.

And they would need to make it quick in just replacing him, because they would be at a disadvantage not having his vote......

I had open heart surgery in 2018 to replace my aortic valve, and was on a blood thinner for a dew weeks afterwards. While I was in rehab after my hospital stay, a very inept phlebotomist tried in vain to extract a blood sample one morning and my hand was left bruised all over like that fro her numerous fruitless needle sticks. It looked terrible.

When my doctor came by to see me later, he took one look at my bruises, had a fit, and promptly drew the needed blood sample himself. He was pissed, and I'm sure he complained to someone. People often have trouble finding my veins (they're small and love to hide), but I have never been bruised like that, before or since, no matter how many times they had to stick me.

All of which is just to say, the bruises you can get when you are on blood thinners look WAY worse than "normal" ones. I'd bet anything those bruises on Mitch's hand were caused by needle sticks, like mine.

Falls—they don’t seem like a big deal, but they are. “As our population continues to live longer and longer, falls are becoming the great plague of the modern era,” wrote Jeremy Faust in Slate in 2016, after Leonard Cohen fell—and then died. “They are the leading cause of accidental death in the elderly, and the incidence has increased steadily over the past decade.” A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention fact sheet warns that the country is on track to experience seven deaths by falling every hour.

But, since the governor is a Dem, I think he should honor McConnell by using a very McConnell type of tactic. Leave the office of Senator open until the next election in order to "let the voters decide." That was McConnell's excuse for leaving the SCOTUS seat open when Garland was nominated as a justice.

Or, pick a Dem, have him/her register as a Republican, and appoint them. It's what Mitch would do in the same situation.

If Bill Frist could do it, well, so can I.

If I had to make a guess, I would say that he did not trip and fall. He may have had a condition which caused him to pass out and fall and hit his head. He clearly has some issue medically of a moderate to severe nature based upon his photographs and his coloration. Often times for example, when people discuss the events leading up to a breaking of their hip they relate a story that they fell, and their hip broke. This is often not the case inasmuch as the person’s hip spontaneously fractures, and the person goes down.

If I were celebrity or politician, and wanted to hide a more serious situation as it evolved, I would Have my publicist put out there that I fell and hit my head, which may be one aspect of this case, but certainly not the entire story.

And if you wish to believe that he in fact, simply fell and hurt himself, if he has a significant underlying condition at his age, his reserve and recovery is going to be somewhat compromised by his ongoing physical status.

Look, I don't like the guy, but here's some facts. Right up there in your face ^^^

Here's some more to think about. He had polio as a kid, and may, in his old age, have developed some post-polio syndrome that could cause gait problems and could have caused him to fall. Plus, older people are just more prone to fall, period. I am pushing 80 and worry about it; my balance can be a little suspect at times because I walk around on an ankle that I was never able to get repaired because of insurance problems. It ain't that hard to fall, people. If you're elderly and on blood thinners, even something as simple as aspirin, or some arthritis meds, that can cause some real problems if you hit your head, like a subdural or epidural hematoma (which IIRC was what killed Bob Saget). As for the bruising y'all noticed on his hands earlier on, we older folks, especially those of the fair-skinned Anglo-Saxon variety, tend to have thin skin and likely thin, fragile blood vessels too. I've always joked that I can bruise if someone gives me a hard look, but it's absolutely true that every Tuesday and Friday when I go herd cats at the shelter, I come home with bruises that I have no idea how I got.

Sure, he's lucky he gets top-notch medical care. And two and a half weeks ago, when I went to urgent care with bronchitis and was sent to ER because of hypotension and hypoxia, I was lucky I did too. (Of course I chose to go to Augusta instead of RMH because I knew better, but that's beside the point.) So I'm inclined to give ol' McTurtle a little grace right now. When he's back to work that will be another story.

*Stepping off soapbox now*

any medical question/issues having to do with Democrats, spreads shit/lies/innuendos. Faux makes it their main "news story" which always seem to seep into the MSM.

My big question is: where is all the "news" about Mitch. Sure he deserves privacy and respect, we all deserve it - it's the law. Our Democratic leaders deserve it. But no - when Nancy Pelosi's husband was attacked w/a hammer, FAUX spread some horrible rumors - just nasty.

But, as others have noted, there are likely other complicating factors, such as a stroke. But it could just be lessened mobility due to age and the fact that he had polio when he was young. I have a BIL who falls a lot. No reason other than he's older now and misses curbs, etc.

I take a blood thinner. I think Mitch does too, judging from the black and blue marks on him.

I had a brain bleed and a concussion. I spent four days in the hospital. When I went home, I was still unsteady on my feet for about a week. I didn't drive. I fell in the beauty shop.

Yes, one can be hospitalized for a concussion. I had nausea and trouble eating. I don't remember everything that happened. I think what happened to him is very much like what happened to me.

The Kentucky Legislature passed a law stating that any congressional appointment due to death, retirement or explusion has to come from the same party. In addition the Kentucky Legislature gets to create the list of potential successors and then gives it to the governor. The bill was vetoed by the current democratic governor but since Kentucky has a republican super majority in the legislature they simply overrode the veto. McConnell backed the bill, after all he knows all about holding up nominees to get what he wants.

He is an aging racist republican fascist. The only thing important to him is winning his personal battles, the country be damned.

Whether or not he returns to the senate is irrelevant. Whoever replaces him will be chosen by republcans (the governor can't do it) and likely to be no better than any other old white guy with a gop lapel pin.

So the best thing that can happen politically is a long abscense from the senate. At least it removes one bad vote.

Mitch McConnell acting normally and eager to be discharged from hospital, adviser tells CNN

By Manu Raju, CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent
Published 2:14 PM EST, Fri March 10, 2023

CNN — Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell is lobbying virtually everyone he sees at the hospital for his release and is acting like his usual self, according to a senior adviser who has spent much of the past two days with him.

Josh Holmes, a top McConnell political adviser, told CNN that McConnell has been urging hospital staff to let him go, though he’s remained there for observation since Wednesday night after falling and hitting his head during a dinner at the Waldorf Astoria hotel. Doctors are treating him for a concussion.

Holmes told CNN that McConnell is acting normally and is eager to get out. When Holmes entered the room, McConnell’s first question: “Did you meet with the candidates today,” referring to potential Senate candidates. The Kentucky Republican also got a briefing from his chief of staff, Sharon Soderstrom, about the Thursday conference lunch that he missed. At the lunch, Alaskan halibut was served courtesty of Sen. Lisa Murkowski. “I’m sorry I missed the halibut,” McConnell said.

McConnell has been responding to colleagues but he has been forced to limit screen time because of concussion protocol. A person familiar with the matter said that McConnell has no visible wounds from the fall.

I swear, some of you sound as bad or worse than the Republicans.
The man is in his 80s. Get a concussion in your 80s and it can lead to all sorts of problems.
It is not unusual for a healthy person to be held for a few days after experiencing a concussion, let alone a man in his 80s who is high up in government.
It is also not unusual for families of such people to request privacy and respect while they deal with such a situation.
And it would not be out of the ordinary for the GOP to want to keep the well being of one of its leaders under wraps until such times as they can know themselves how he is doing.
Dems are always demanding respect, how about showing some?
I dislike McConnell as much as any of you, and think he is a pox on your nation, but he is also an old man who has just had a bad fall and it really is not your business why he's being held in hospital for a couple days.

DH fell forward on ice several years ago...broke his humerus near the shoulder without head injury, loss of consciousness or concussion. Two days later his arm and hand was black and blue down to the fingertips. At that point, he saw a doctor and was off work in a sling for 4 wks and some physical therapy for another two.

I don't think this is the first time McConnell has fallen; don't think it will be the last time. Likely had some complications to what was first described, technically a traumatic brain injury after a fall, much like those rough and tough NFL players who get their heads knocked about a few times. Recall the skier, Liam Neeson's wife, Natasha Richardson, who actually died after her insistence to avoid medical attention after a head injury fall on a beginner slope that turned out more dangerous than it first appeared.

The Turtle probably needs to think about wearing a nice soft helmet during daily waking hours barring other ailments.

Haven't read or heard anything different. McConnell hasn't looked well for quite some time. Remember all the bruises on his hands last year? I thought sure he was failing at that point, and then he pushed for limiting Beshear in KY from appointing a replacement if a US Senator (maybe rep, too) was incapacitated and could no longer serve. He wanted to make sure only a Republican would fill the seat.

But McConnell defied predictions. The Turtle is stronger than he looks. Age is a factor, of course. If indeed it is a concussion and the jolt was severe, it could easily incapacitate.
