@USOPM Dir. Kiran Ahuja: I do take issue with the characterization.
Boebert: Its in this leaked document.
Ahuja: Youre basing that from 2020, which is in the last administration.

(10,434 posts)We can't even get rid of an idiotic **** like her because her district is drawn to ensure that ANY fucking republicon could win it. No matter how stupid, obnoxious or anti-American they are.
It's not the only district like that, and that's the reason republicons control the House even when more people vote D.

(2,809 posts)Some familiarity with the area, ahem, correction: some deeply rooted PTSD beridden full-on burnt-my-past-bridges unexceptionally to the area to salvage my life familiarity with the region. Gerrymandered fully republican advantage, yes, but only a piece of the well-armed trouble there.
I could write a book on the facepalmwortthy stories of redneck stupidity from my unwilling late teen years moved in that vicinity. Many stories involving "running those no good pinko hippie commies out of town" stories. Several egregious racism violations. Grisly "killed the homo" legends who got off the murder charges scratch-free on the "gay panic" defense. Now all translated fully into hate-them-dems manifestos.
The Westboro bunch owns vacation homes there.
It's insanely fucked up area. Glenwood Springs-nice place. But drive straight through if you don't want to be sickened by the hateful MAGA displays.
None of that surprises me one iota from what I had the misfortune to experience.

She CAN be defeated. Her district isnt like MTGs.

(2,149 posts)In congress should pass a Combined US citizenship and basic Constitutional law test. Also Roberts rules of order.
This will have a two fold effect - 1 - keeping the idiots out of Congress, and 2 - Making sure the ones in Congress know what they are doing.

(35,709 posts)shortly before she was elected to the House.
She is so totally out of her element. Look at the educational accomplishments of her colleagues, according to Pew Research Center:
snip
In the House, nearly two-thirds of representatives (64%) have a graduate degree. Five representatives (1%) have an associate degree but no bachelors. Another 22 members (5%) do not have a degree. This group includes one member who has a professional certification: Democrat Cori Bush of Missouri has a registered nursing diploma.
snip
Which party has more educated people in the House?
snip
While 95% of Democrats and 93% of Republicans in the House hold at least a bachelors degree, Democrats are more likely than Republicans to have completed a graduate degree (73% vs. 55%). Fourteen of the 22 representatives without a college degree are Republicans.
snip
In the Senate: "Republican Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma is the lone senator without at least a bachelors degree. He holds an associate degree from Oklahoma State University of Technology."

(12,463 posts)I see no problem with "Representative Level" politicians and their level of education.
Politicians, particularly Congressfolks are sent to DC by winning a majority of votes and they're expected to do what those who voted for them want them to do.
My Congresswoman, which is nice to write because my District is freshly gerrymandered from Red to Blue... she is expected to support the Democratic Party and President Biden because that's what the people sent her to DC to do.
You don't need a Degree in Physics to vote the way your constituents want you to.
Having said that... I'll go the other way re: Judges and Cabinet level folks and of course the POTUS.
Having Obama's intellect in the White House made for 8 years of restful nights.
NJCher
(35,709 posts)you are taking a very limited view of what a representative does. There is way more to it than representation of the constituents.
One has to have the wisdom to write bills that work within the structure of government. That is one of the problems with trump: he truly is ignorant of how government works. He especially doesn't understand how democracy works. He thinks he can just be the boss and that's that.
Same with Boebert. If you look at Boebert's bills, they are the type of top-down stupidity that would wreak havoc on how government actually operates. An example is her H.R.8030: Fentanyl is a WMD Act. Go ask the DEA how they'll be working with Homeland Security on this. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to take that on so Boebert can look good to her dumbass constituents.
Boebert does not have the sincere interest in government to actually propose and write legislation in keeping with what her colleagues can and do. Examine her bills alongside those of people like Schiff or Raskin. One quickly can see that the bills of the latter are very specific whereas Boebert's are "showmanship" bills, named to make herself look like she's representing r-w causes.
Here is another of Boebert's gems:
H.RES.680: Impeaching Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., President of the United States, for the high crimes and misdemeanors of betrayal of the public trust.
This has a lot of room for traction, don't you think?
I could go on, but I hope you get the idea.

(12,463 posts)They have teams of well educated people who DO write bills and research the Constitution and the law.
I stand by my argument re: "Representative level" politicians.
NJCher
(35,709 posts)Forget trying to tell me they don't write laws (which at that point are actually bills) because I know they do. Here's how I know: because I have proposed many a bill on municipal, state, and federal level and I have worked directly with the councilperson or state or federal congressional representative in the writing of these bills. Not to mention that 70% of representatives in the House (or at least before the republicans took over) are attorneys.
Not only did the legislator get involved, other legislators were asked to review and add input to the bill (in the form of writing). Yes, staff researchers did some writing, but it is not a case of the legislator telling his/her staff to "go write this law" like you are trying to say. Then the bill is sent to Committee, which is a whole other process in making it a law.
People like Boebert are doing nothing but clogging up the pipeline with nonsense that will never get passed out of committee. She is wasting our time, our legislator and support staff time, and taxpayer dollars.
So please tell us how you know Congressional reps don't write laws. Were you in their offices working with them? What is your experience in the legislative process? Have you ever proposed a bill to any governmental body? Have you ever even been in a Congressperson's office?
Do you even know how to look up and read bills by each Congressperson? Please answer these questions in any response you might compose.
Feel free to stand by your erroneous opinion, but I'm not going to let you get away with a sadly mistaken, ill-informed post like what you've written. I don't really care whether you stand by it or not, but I do want others to know that you don't know what you're talking about.
-----------
There is an exception to what I've written above and that is republicans. They do boilerplate laws. The laws that are anti-LGBQT, reports Rep. Cavanaugh, the filibustering representative from Nebraska, are boilerplate. In this case, who knows who actually wrote the original bill.

(12,463 posts)If a rural District of ranchers and farmers sends a High School grad to Congress... that's kinda the whole intent of the House of Representatives.
But whatever, you're rude and I'll not continue discussions with you.
NJCher
(35,709 posts)I think it's fair to assume the answer to my questions are no.
I asked you these questions so we could know how Congressional reps don't write laws. However, you completely failed to acknowledge or justify your answer, whereas I provided details from my social activist background about how I know. It certainly appears as though you have no justification for your position.
Therefore:
Were you in their offices working with them? Apparently your answer is no.
What is your experience in the legislative process? None? Looks like -0-.
Have you ever proposed a bill to any governmental body? You listed none.
Have you ever even been in a Congressperson's office? Please, at least you've done this?
Do you even know how to look up and read bills by each Congressperson? If you knew that, you wouldn't have posted what you did.
Stop misinforming people.

(12,463 posts)One more time before I block you...
The Constitutional intent of a Representative to the House of Representatives is for the person to be a member of the community.
It's perfectly A-OK for a rural district of farmers and ranchers in let's say... Wyoming, North Dakota or Iowa... to send a rancher with a High School Diploma to Congress.
Pointy headed intellectuals are always available for hire in DC to write legislation and research law.
And this is coming from someone with 2 Graduate Degrees...
You really need to work on your people skills... you really come across poorly. Like a jerk to be honest.
NJCher
(35,709 posts)education than other parts of the country? I think you are. How insulting to an entire group of people. This is bigoted and discriminatory on your part.
You also call staff members in Congress pointy-headed intellectuals. Wow. I happen to know quite a number of these people and not a one of them would get such an insulting description.
Nothing I have said in my posts is rude. I merely asked you to provide information that would qualify you as knowing that Congressional representatives do not in fact write ads. You have thus far avoided answering the question, which tells me everything.
