(40,477 posts)Are the amount of seeds one gets worth the space pumpkins need?
I'm converting my backyard into a garden and orchard in preparation for climate change and there's only so much space available.

(11,280 posts)I'm hoping "All Quiet On The Western Front" wins. Clearly shows that WAR is evil.

And maybe Naatu Naatu.
Plus my eyes feel a bit stiff. The annual roll fest keeps things limber.

(3,546 posts)Its mostly just the academy telling us how much they love themselves. The speeches are too long, and the wrong movie usually wins.

(55,742 posts)most of it. I used to love Joan Rivers doing fashion commentary On The Red Carpet. She was so funny.

(2,964 posts)Now I don't know who anyone is or what the movies are. I'm lucky to stay awake watching anything over 30 minutes.
I liked it better when people didn't expect the movie to have to be life changing to be any good and a $100 million wasn't needed to make a movie. I guess the cheaper movies are what make up the Netflix, Prime, etc lineup. Whatever.

(4,516 posts)We will watch them around 8 so we can skip all the boring categories and commercials.

I am a much bigger music fan than music fan but I do enjoy the Oscars. Wont spoil it but those were nice early wins.

(38,902 posts)We're too far from the stations/repeaters for digital to work and I refuse to pay for the "free" channels.
We can often get ION, public TV, a station with multiple versions of "all Jesus, all the time," and occasionally NBC. Depending on weather, time of day, and tree cover.

(28,793 posts)Normally I think Kimmel is great but I thought his jokes fell flat and he kept it up with Spielberg far beyond when it was amusing at all in my opinion. Others may differ and I respect that.

But I agree. I think, for the most part, and to my surprise, he fell flat. Going back, in the last 20 years or so I have to say Billy Crystal has been the best by far.

(15,016 posts)Kind, humble winners, respectable, Jimmy Kimmel is entertaining and festive....I see a big dial down of the arrogance of yester year!

(43,850 posts)So far theyve been uplifting, kind and people have been deeply supportive of one another. The diversity is nice and I saw, and in various ways, enjoyed most of the movies.

(18,935 posts)Unfortunately the Academy tends to award movies that appeal to "insiders"
I've seen Triangle of Sadness... terrible. I've seen Babylon, terrible. I've seen Women Talking.. OK at best.
I've seen Everything, Everywhere etc... it was interesting but not really entertaining.
And I've seen Avatar, Top Gun and Elvis...
In fact, I saw Elvis 4x.
The Academy tries to go AGAINST commercially successful pictures and I think it makes them look elitist and snobby.

(11,264 posts)Id also argue the Departed, Parasite, and Slum Dog Millionaire were decently popular and successful.
Not Avatar or Titanic money, but $250+ million is nothing to sneeze at.
But point taken. I couldnt do Tar. I tried, I couldnt. Im exhausted with these movies that are Acting! vehicles. It ends up feeling a bit cold, calculated, and dull if I can perceive what is being done.

(2,670 posts)Mostly for the fashion (some spectacular outfits!) Ive seen Top Gun And Elvis, but thats all. LOVED Elvis and the actor who played him; Top Gun was sort of entertaining but way too offensively macho for me. My husband watched Everything Everywhere today and thought it was awful. Not a big fan of Jimmy Kimmel; I thought that his comment re Robert Blake was completely out of line.
