An Ivermectin Influencer Died. Now His Followers Are Worried About Their Own 'Severe' Symptoms

Danny Lemoi took a daily dose of veterinary-grade ivermectin and told his thousands of followers to give the drug to children. He died of a common side effect of the medication.

Just before 7 am on March 3, Danny Lemoi posted an update in his hugely popular pro-ivermectin Telegram group, Dirt Road Discussions: “HAPPY FRIDAY ALL YOU POISONOUS HORSE PASTE EATING SURVIVORS !!!”

Hours later, Lemoi was dead.

For the last decade, Lemoi had taken a daily dose of veterinary ivermectin, a dewormer designed to be used on large animals like horses and cows. In 2021, as ivermectin became a popular alternative COVID-19 treatment among anti-vaxxers, he launched what became one of the largest Telegram channels dedicated to promotion the use of it, including instructions on how to administer ivermectin to children.

But despite Lemoi’s death, the administrators of his channel plan to continue pushing his misinformation—even as his followers share their own worrying possible side effects from taking ivermectin and some question the safety of the drug.

Lemoi, a heavy equipment operator who lived in Forster, Rhode Island, “passed away unexpectedly” on March 3, according to an online obituary post by his family last week. He was survived by his parents and brother. The obituary gave no details about the cause of his death.

Some Qanon follower is preparing such a response right now. They'll never accept a simple truth when there is a more convoluted, bizarre answer. Then they can say, "See we told you.....blah, blah, blah". Of all their fears, being wrong tops their list. They'll even put their lives and the lives of their families at grave risk just so they won't have to admit they were wrong.

Here’s What You Need to Know about Ivermectin

The FDA has not authorized or approved ivermectin for use in preventing or treating COVID-19 in humans or animals. Ivermectin is approved for human use to treat infections caused by some parasitic worms and head lice and skin conditions like rosacea.
Currently available data do not show ivermectin is effective against COVID-19. Clinical trials assessing ivermectin tablets for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 in people are ongoing.
Taking large doses of ivermectin is dangerous.
If your health care provider writes you an ivermectin prescription, fill it through a legitimate source such as a pharmacy, and take it exactly as prescribed.
Never use medications intended for animals on yourself or other people. Animal ivermectin products are very different from those approved for humans. Use of animal ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 in humans is dangerous.

Unless he was in the habit of eating raw sausage from really dodgy sources, I have no idea why he'd start taking the stuff in 2013 unless he liked the taste or he really was desperate for that Darwin Award.

Really a sweet lady in her late 60s, had bladder cancer that came back. People in her church group told her Ivermectin cures cancer, so she told the doctor she wasn't doing chemo anymore because of the side effects. She died a few months later in Fall of 2021. Really sad.

And my thought is that she might have gotten Covid near the end too, but the family didn't say so, but the last I talked to her she was coughing. I don't know all the particulars of her case, but just what she told me, that she was stopping chemo because of side effects and trying Ivermectin and then died a few months later. Maybe she was terminal regardless, I don't know. But maybe the chemo would have worked and she's dead because she stopped.

The pushing of Ivermectin by people who should know better has had awful consequences. Real people are dead because of it, real people who have families, friends, and neighbors who miss them.

While I hope Lemoi rests in peace, and wish the best for his family, he acted stupidly - he essentially killed himself with poison to spite those who believe in vaccines. Hard to get your head around such irrational behavior.

Findings: In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled platform trial including 1206 US adults with COVID-19 during February 2022 to July 2022, the median time to sustained recovery was 11 days in the ivermectin group, and 11 days in the placebo group. In this largely vaccinated (84%) population, the posterior probability that ivermectin reduced symptom duration by more than 1 day was less than 0.1%.

LESS than a tenth of 1%? Go on...

Among those receiving ivermectin, 34 were hospitalized, died, or had urgent or emergency care visits compared with 36 receiving placebo. In the ivermectin group, 1 participant died and 4 were hospitalized; 2 participants were hospitalized in the placebo group and there were no deaths.

Meaning: These findings do not support the use of ivermectin among outpatients with COVID-19.

Science; amiright?

When some members of the group blamed Lemoi's death on ivermectin, they were criticized in the Telegram channel; their fellow group members claimed they were spreading misinformation.

"No one can convince me that he died because of ivermectin," one member wrote this week. "He ultimately died because of our failed western medicine which only cares about profits and not the cure."

Despite Lemoi's death, administrators said this week the Telegram channel would live on, and the group is attracting new members who continue to take ivermectin despite suffering serious side effects.
