The Moocher Argument

I am so sick of my RW relatives and friends posting the whole "minorities who want free stuff" argument. My sister-in-law was the last straw. Here's my reply:

"That's right, conservatives - keep telling yourselves that the reason you lost is because "moochers" who want free stuff outnumber the "real" Americans. I get that it must make you feel better.

Right now, you're probably shocked because you KNOW that your principles are correct. And since those principles are correct, there's no way your guy loses. But - he lost. What the hell does that mean?

Well, since there's NO WAY you could be wrong, you've got to figure something else out, right? "Most people are moochers" is a convenient argument.

Here are the facts though: 1) The Democrats have won the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 Presidential elections (2004, W won the Popular Vote); 2) The highest Electoral College total in this time period for a Republican has been 286; 3) The highest popular vote percentage for a Republican President in this period has been 50.8%

Conservatives, wake up. Stop watching Fox News. You have an alternate view of reality that doesn't go along with the rest of the world. Kimberly: You know I was telling you - even down to the state, 2 weeks before the election - who was going to win. It wasn't a belief based on faith - it was a belief based on the facts that were before me. Conservatives need to re-discover facts, even if it makes them uncomfortable.

Lying to yourself works for awhile, but sooner or later reality is going to haul off and smack you upside the head."

Their method of resolving the dissonance is to blame poor people who want free things from government. And if I have to see that damn quote about "democracy only lasting until people figure out that they can vote themselves free money" one more time - I think I will throw my notebook out the window.

The Romneys paid less in taxes than most working people and they are happy with that. Many very profitable corporations paid NO Taxes, and they are fine with that. We still hand over hundreds of millions of our tax dollars to oil corporations for no apparent reason. But these stupid RepubliCONS don't go around calling GE moochers BP moochers. They don't call Romney a moocher when he cons a bailout for hundreds of millions of our tax dollars.

Moocher is as moocher does and the biggest moochers are rich RepubliCONS.

He has been complaining about Obama ever since he became the President. But this man, who is white, elderly in his mid 60s complains ALL DAY LONG about how he is worried about his money, health insurance, whine whine whine about everything. He receives veterans benefits and he has a check from the job. He doesn't realize that he IS the 47% and yet he voted for Romney. I don't understand these people.

All those people getting govt assistance. She asked if it was really 40%. I told her that it might be when you include Everyone getting a govt check, including Retired Military (her), retirees, disabled people, including disabled veterans, not just welfare and not just food stamp recipients.

BTW, I don't judge how people "deserve" their govt check, whether it was because of a contract with the govt to put in 20 years, or through FICA. It's not my place to judge every case of someone on public assistance and whether they already supported the system with earlier tax dollars. She, however, is inclined to judge.

Our decades old friendship is at risk.

And we were doing fine, but then she started telling me what I was supposed to doing differently in raising my son with ADD. She hasn't seen him since he was an infant. She was way out of line because my spouse and I were already addressing those issues. When I tried to tell her that she hung up on me.

I guess she wants a time out. Fine. I'll give a long one.

On the other hand, the motivation of a vast number of Republicans lately is to lower their own taxes... In other words, they "want more stuff".

FUCK them.

I just was on rant elsewhere how pissed I am at the invigorated frothing hate and contempt for the poor (especially minorities). It's gotten worse since Tuesday and they've gone totally off the rails. I can't wrap my head around it, especially when people who claim to follow Christ are such narcissistic, hateful assholes who genuinely seem to want poor people to suffer and die. It's insane. And sad.

Pay more to the federal government than they get prove your point.

I am on my new tablet and so I Am slow compared typing to my at home laptop.

Try to look it up and send to the family. I saw it on DU.

BTW England is so happy Obama won. My son's friends are pleased. I shall be home Sunday in northern Ontario after six weeks away.

I do love visiting UK. it makes one realize that North America is so young. I visited Stonehenge and Roman ruins and Henry VIII'S hangouts. It is good to see another country. Would you believe that curry food is very popular?

Politics here has no God touted by the politicans nor is there a ' We are the greatest' attitude. Very refreshing. Cheerio my DU friends.
