Murdering Coal Exec, Murray reads vile "prayer" to employees, then fires 150+

You remember this piece of shit? In case you don't:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._Murray#Crandall_Canyon_Mine_collapse

Here's his "prayer
<snip>

Dear Lord:

The American people have made their choice. They have decided that America must change its course, away from the principals of our Founders. And, away from the idea of individual freedom and individual responsibility. Away from capitalism, economic responsibility, and personal acceptance.

We are a Country in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.

My regret, Lord, is that our young people, including those in my own family, never will know what America was like or might have been. They will pay the price in their reduced standard of living and, most especially, reduced freedom.

The takers outvoted the producers. In response to this, I have turned to my Bible and in II Peter, Chapter 1, verses 4-9 it says, “To faith we are to add goodness; to goodness, knowledge; to knowledge, self control; to self control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; to godliness, kindness; to brotherly kindness, love.”

Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build. We ask for your guidance in this drastic time with the drastic decisions that will be made to have any hope of our survival as an American business enterprise.

Amen.

I am getting real, real tired of the idea that only right wing-nuts can set the terms as to what freedom is, what the Founding Fathers meant, what hard work is, what personal responsibility is, what it means to be an American, and on and on. Some where along the line, like real soon, democrats need to start controlling the language. People like Murray are EVIL and dangerous, period.

He's a douche, but he isn't required by law to hire or retain people. He was probably going to fire them anyway, and this is just a way for him to get his name in the news while appearing to blame Obama at the same time.

I have a few friends who live in West Virginia who said they would have voted for Obama, but all the scare tactics being flung around that state by the Coal Executives made them change their minds. They are terrified that the state will sink due to massive layoffs.

And I admit to not knowing how it works in a case like this. Can an employer/owner claim that they have to lay people off for business reasons and the union can do nothing? Or is it different depending on the industry? Does the employer/owner have to open the books to prove the necessity of the action?

I know unions offer outstanding protection against capricious firings, but what happens if the employer/owner cries poor?

Dear Lord: Appropriate start

The American people have made their choice. They have decided that America must change its course, This is correct. We did make our choice, we do want a change of course. So far so good.

away from the principals of our Founders. Huh? The principals of our founding fathers was to establish a democracy of free individuals, who do not live under the thumb of tyrannical kings. This is achieved by selecting and then electing those who wish to serve the people. This is EXACTLY what our founding fathers established.

And, away from the idea of individual freedom and individual responsibility. I'm sorry, I'm still trying to figure this one out. Did we suddenly wake up in a fascist state on Wednesday morning? Did I miss that Christmas was canceled? No one has come knocking on my door asking me to hand over any of my firearms. I am free to do what I want and am still responsible for what I do or do not do.

Away from capitalism, economic responsibility, and personal acceptance. If the free market exercised economic responsibility, please explain Enron, Tyco and the 100's of those little tiny Wall Street "faux pas" that have cost thousands of jobs, billions in "lost(stolen)" investment dollars, etc...?

We are a Country in favor of redistribution, No, we are a country that desires "equal footing".
national weakness Equal Footing
and reduced standard of living I guess the windows may be getting dirty at the top of the ivory tower.
and lower and lower levels of personal freedom. By lower levels of personal freedom, if he means that he is upset that no one is picking his cotton for free, then yes I agree.

My regret, Lord, is that our young people, including those in my own family, never will know what America was like or might have been. His regret is my wish. I would be ashamed if I left this country behind in the state that it is in, and where he would like to direct it.

They will pay the price in their reduced standard of living and, most especially, reduced freedom. Heaven forbid that his children may have to share a classroom with the Proles and have to abide by laws that prevent them from leaving bootprints on those Proles as they are handed their ticket to the top.

The takers outvoted the producers. In response to this, I have turned to my Bible and in II Peter, Chapter 1, verses 4-9 it says, “To faith we are to add goodness; to goodness, knowledge; to knowledge, self control; to self control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; to godliness, kindness; to brotherly kindness, love.” II Peter, Ch 1 ver 4-9 discusses virtue so that we may participate in the divine nature. To escape corruption caused by evil (ver 4), to be good, be wise, have self control, to persevere, and to exhibit godliness(ver 5). To have mutual affection and love for ALL (ver 7). If one possesses these qualities, they will keep you from being unproductive in your knowledge of Christ (ver 8). If you do not have these qualities, you will end up nearsighted and blind, forgetting all that we have been taught.

These verses are a teaching of how not to be corrupted, but to be productive with your knowledge and in the end love ALL. To me it seems, he sees himself as a producer, yet those that may swing the hammer or drill the hole for his company are not producers, they are the takers. They a those who he graces with a paycheck, as he is the producer, not them. They just take.

A good CEO (like the one I work with) knows that a company is not built on money alone, but is born from great leadership, and those willing to raise up that company with a shared view and hard work of EVERYONE involved.

Amen. Appropriate ending.

To me it would seem that his greatest fear is of narrowing the welath gap in this country. That he somehow HAS to be placed at a higher level than others as their great leader. The great provider, for those who just take from him. What a jerk.
