Nissan tool and die workers vote against union at Tennessee plant

Tool and die workers at a Nissan plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, voted on Thursday against joining a union.

The vote wasn't close, providing the latest example of the challenges union organizers face at Southern auto plants.

Nissan spokeswoman Lloryn Love-Carter provided a company statement cheering the outcome, with workers opting not to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

"By a vote of 62 to 9 with 97% participation, workers at a Nissan manufacturing facility have again voted overwhelmingly against union representation and elected to maintain their direct relationship with the company. Nissan respects this decision, and we remain focused on working with employees to drive our future forward together," she said.

first-hand, which I don)'t recommend.

Yet, if a union job with great pay & benefits becomes available, they are all clammoring for it.

Gawd...

The particulars of this union issue with the company. That said, in most cases, employees are better off with the union by far than they are without. Of course being the South, the lack of emotional intelligence and stupidity by many, when it comes to these issues, seems limitless.

They think they are being cool, when in fact they’re just a bunch of dumb fucks. Companies like to set up shop in the south, cause they know they’re dealing with dumbasses. With a union and a contract, you have rights and work rules, negotiated salaries, grievance process, medical and insurance specified in the contract etc, that the company cannot change with the stroke of their pen any time they feel like it.

While I'm not familiar with that particular plant, I have worked with many in that profession over the years. I wouldn't at all characterize them as "dumb fucks"

The vote was 62-9 with 97% voting.

We saw their tactics on display during the recent Right to Work repeal in Michigan. Voters in the South have swallowed up Republican lies and refuse to stray even an inch from that brainwashing.

those who voted against unionizing are "dumb fucks." Everything in this life is relative. We must strive to make the relativity worth it to those with disagree with. Un recognized "relativity" is what has given us MAGAs.

They are negotiating for 11% and 9% COLA this year and next.... A 1$/hr differential for onsite work, increased vacation accruals, adding indigenous people's day as a paid holiday, etc.....

We won't get it all, but based on their history, we will see 3-5% COLAs per year at least.

Sucks to be Tennessee...but you get what you get dumbshites
