Gen-Z for ChangeThe organization's account on TikTok was created in October 2020 under the name TikTok for Biden, to support Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election in the United States.[8] The organization was renamed Gen-Z for Change in January 2021.[9]
In early March 2022, the Presidency of Joe Biden enlisted Gen-Z for Change to help organize a briefing between senior administration officials and prominent social media influencers about the Russo-Ukrainian War.[9] The briefing was leaked to The Washington Post, which later inspired a sketch on NBC's comedy show Saturday Night Live.[10][11] Prior to that, Gen-Z for Change partnered with the White House and United States Department of Health and Human Services to combat COVID-19 misinformation and promote vaccination efforts.[12] Although the organization has regularly criticized the Biden Administration, some have worried about their close ties to each other.

Kids Say The Darndest Things...

(33,643 posts)or environmental destruction, or climate change.
But the fracking boom is petering out and humanity needs a replacement.
Humanity has drug it's feet for 50 years on this subject ... transitioning from FF's. The world needs the oil, because we've painted ourselves into a corner with 8B people living on the planet.
Not fair to lay it all at Biden's feet. He's done a lot of good things too, even with this project, scaling it back, getting concessions, closing off other lands. Not to mention all the other great efforts he's put into ramping up renewables and such.
Young people have been at this point been fed a steady diet of 'oh, the world could be all windmills and solar panels and we could live just like we do now, it's just greedy corporations and corrupt politicians stopping it!'
And they're wrong. Basic physics, a world economy entirely dependent on perpetual growth, and overpopulation is what's really stopping the transition.
Getting off the 100 year old addiction to the energy bounty conferred by 85,000,000 x 55 gallon drums of oil a DAY (worldwide, nowadays) is an absolutely monumental task to accomplish, esp. without a 1-World government regulating the hell out of everything, and limiting the population. And that's not counting the staggering amounts of natural gas and coal still being burned every day world wide.
Young people want to believe there's an easy answer that's just being avoided cause of bad actors, but really ... there's not. Reality is, the reason the large majority of the kids complaining are even alive right now, TO complain? Is because of fossil fuels. At this point, we're basically made of the stuff.
And unfortunately, they're pretty much fucked no matter what Biden does or doesn't do.

(1,273 posts)Did I miss the story of where the White House called in the Environmental Groups, the young groups, the tribal associations ???
Because I sure as hell missed it.
Somebody recently suggested they bring Ron Klain back... not a bad idea.
Because somebody at the WH apparently didn't see this coming, or didn't care.
Even if... IF... the decision was the correct one, you do not treat your allies this way.
People are prepared for a frontal assault, the stab in the back they don't see coming.

(33,643 posts)I get why people are upset, I'm upset too. ESP. cause it's in Alaska, and the world is really running out of pristine wilderness for her wildlife
OTOH though I trust Biden, he's built up enough good will in terms of climate action that I'm personally prepared to give him some benefit of doubt. I'm sure he did not make this decision lightly.

(58,785 posts)since long before The League of Conservation Voters added the category "climate" to the many categories they rate members of congress on. Professional environmentalists and groups all know that.

I know I'd be more livid if this was Trump not gonna lie.
Even though, if I was honest with myself, I'd have to concede the underlying point I just made ... still exists.
But I probably wouldn't have just read an article the prior week saying some of the biggest US fracking fields are declining in production just the week before ... which does matter to me in my assessment of something like this.

(176,828 posts)Attacking a sitting Democratic office holder only hurts the party. President Biden will be the nominee in 2024 and we need President Biden re-elected. If TFG or DeathSantis win, we may lose our Democratic form of government

(176,828 posts)I have been volunteering for voter protection efforts ever since. I remember the idiots who supporter Nader even though it was clear that Karl Rove was supporting Nader http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eric-zuesse/ralph-nader-was-indispens_b_4235065.html
Furthermore, Karl Rove and the Republican Party knew this, and so they nurtured and crucially assisted Naders campaigns, both in 2000 and in 2004. On 27 October 2000, the APs Laura Meckler headlined GOP Group To Air Pro-Nader TV Ads. She opened: Hoping to boost Ralph Nader in states where he is threatening to hurt Al Gore, a Republican group is launching TV ads featuring Nader attacking the vice president [Mr. Gore]. ... Al Gore is suffering from election year delusion if he thinks his record on the environment is anything to be proud of, Nader says [in the commercial]. An announcer interjects: Whats Al Gores real record? Nader says: Eight years of principles betrayed and promises broken. Mecklers report continued: A spokeswoman for the Green Party nominee said that his campaign had no control over what other organizations do with Naders speeches. Bushs people - the group sponsoring this particular ad happened to be the Republican Leadership Council - knew exactly what they were doing, even though the liberal suckers who voted so carelessly for Ralph Nader obviously did not. Anyone who drives a car the way those liberal fools voted, faces charges of criminal negligence, at the very least. But this time, the entire nation crashed as a result; not merely a single car.....
On July 9th, the San Francisco Chronicle headlined GOP Doners Funding Nader: Bush Supporters Give Independents Bid a Financial Lift, and reported that the Nader campaign has received a recent windfall of contributions from deep-pocketed Republicans with a history of big contributions to the party, according to an analysis of federal records. Perhaps these contributors were Ambassador Egans other friends. Mr. Egans wife was now listed among the Nader contributors. Another listed was Nijad Fares, a Houston businessman, who donated $200,000 to the Bush inaugural committee and who donated $2,000 each to the Nader effort and the Bush campaign this year. Furthermore, Ari Berman reported 7 October 2004 at the Nation, under Swift Boat Veterans for Nader, that some major right-wing funders of a Republican smear campaign against Senator John Kerrys Vietnam service contributed also $13,500 to the Nader campaign, and that the Republican Party of Michigan gathered ninety percent of Naders signatures in their state (90%!) to place Nader on the ballot so Bush could win that swing states 17 electoral votes. Clearly, the word had gone out to Bushs big contributors: Help Ralphie boy! In fact, on 15 September 2005, John DiStaso of the Manchester Union-Leader, reported that, A year ago, as the Presidential general election campaign raged in battleground state New Hampshire, consumer advocate Ralph Nader found his way onto the ballot, with the help of veteran Republican strategist David Carney and the Carney-owned Norway Hill Associates consulting firm.
It was obvious, based upon the 2000 election results, that a dollar contributed to Nader in the 2004 contest would probably be a more effective way to achieve a Bush win against Kerry in the U.S. Presidential election than were perhaps even ten dollars contributed to Bush. This was a way of peeling crucial votes off from Bushs real opponent - votes that otherwise would have gone to the Democrat. Thats why the smartest Republican money in the 2004 Presidential election was actually going to Nader, even more so than to Bush himself: these indirect Bush contributions provided by far the biggest bang for the right-wing buck.
