DCCC should be recruiting challengers right now and for the next year to the 30 most vulnerable Repub incumbents.
Then, they should turn those campaigns over to Plouffe, Alexrod, Messina, etc.
These guys know how to microtarget and run campaigns much better than the DCCC or any state Dem parties.
We will never get real change in this country without holding the House and the Senate (with 60 plus RELIABLE Dem votes or a major change in the filibuster).

(35,359 posts)We elect a president then sit back like in 2010 and don't support him in the mid-terms and then blame the Republicans for gridlock.

(15,438 posts)through the midterms where we traditionally lose it. We can't afford to hamstring the president as he works for us.
The Obama Campaign Team should stand at the head of the 2014 midterms to ensure we GOTV so we can add to the senate and get rid of more TeaBaggers in the House.

Time to herd the kitties!!

(5,465 posts)Everyone of us needs to let our elected Congress critters know we are watching, we are analyzing, and we will hold them accountable come 2014. Hold their feet to the fire, write letters, call them, make our voices heard through action in our districts. Let the GOP know we are here, and they damn well best work with the President to move this country forward. If not - we leave them behind.
Change must and should begin at home. Fired up - ready to go!!

(3,491 posts)Pay them what they need. It'll help us get back some of the state legislatures we lost and win some governor races as well.
Also, we still have a number of Senators defending seats, ie, Kay Hagan here in NC. We can't drop the ball as in '10 ever again.

(11,605 posts)I know it's highly unlikely, but I really want to take back the House in 2014.
I don't think there has ever in history been a wave midterm election in favor of the president's party, but I think 2014 can be the first time, if we are successful at painting House Republicans as obstructionists who don't care about the country and only care about winning and obstructing.
We really need Democratic Superpacs and 527's to run ads attacking Republicans throughout the Congressional term if they obstruct, and we need a better press operation to drive the narrative. Bush and his team were so effective at painting Democrats who got in his way as obstructionist and even unpatriotic. I am not in favor of painting legitimate dissent as unpatriotic, but I think we need to borrow a page from their playbook and hold Republicans' feet to the fire.
And yes, I think having Obama's campaign team run the 2014 effort is a great idea. They are the best in the party by a longshot.

(32,046 posts)There are about 466 campaigns going on in the midterm (not counting governors). There is no way a "campaign team" can run that many campaigns. Plus the Obama people will already be using their time at that point to various 2016 presidential campaigns.
