I do know a fair amount of Rs who are straddling DeSantis and 45, or even in Destantis camp for now, cause they see him him for what he is, a heart less technocrat who is more nazi like, focused and more subtle about things.

But, these people like to get misty over their candidates, and he does not have any personality or charm.

There still is a long time for someone with more personality or charm, who will have a proven record and proclivity to be mean to others, to jump over Desantis as 1B.

Trump currently has a strong lead for the nomination, but once the indictments drop, my sense is those who have been looking for an off ramp will use indictments to craft a narrative that Trump has become “unelectable”. I expect FOX will get a lot of mileage out of “just asking questions- is Trump unelectable?”

In addition, Politico published a report that there is a move afoot by some establishment Republicans to change the winner-takes-all primary rules. If they succeed, Trump’s chances at winning the nomination drop significantly.

DeSantis has his own weaknesses as a candidate that have barely been examined on the national stage.

Nevertheless, my dream ballot would be a three way match up between Biden-DeSantis-Trump (as an independent). That way, we could kill two turds with one vote.

They know Trump can't win but trying to get rid of Trump is a daunting task because of the maga base. If these indictments take him out then he will be gone without anyone in the party having to get their hands dirty and they will be done with Trump once and for all.
