It will be Biden vs. DeSantis.

DeSatan's authoritarian power grab in Florida will not work for the rest of the country. People are rising up in states that are trying to flex their Mussolini muscles.

(3,213 posts)DeathSantis doesn't have enough national support. Trump supporters are already attacking him.

(17,087 posts)There isn't a single Republican primary poll where someone besides Trump is ahead of him. On Republican sites they say they like him, although some MAGA hardcores say he should step aside for Trump.

(14,868 posts)I do know a fair amount of Rs who are straddling DeSantis and 45, or even in Destantis camp for now, cause they see him him for what he is, a heart less technocrat who is more nazi like, focused and more subtle about things.
But, these people like to get misty over their candidates, and he does not have any personality or charm.
There still is a long time for someone with more personality or charm, who will have a proven record and proclivity to be mean to others, to jump over Desantis as 1B.

(17,634 posts)Trump currently has a strong lead for the nomination, but once the indictments drop, my sense is those who have been looking for an off ramp will use indictments to craft a narrative that Trump has become unelectable. I expect FOX will get a lot of mileage out of just asking questions- is Trump unelectable?
In addition, Politico published a report that there is a move afoot by some establishment Republicans to change the winner-takes-all primary rules. If they succeed, Trumps chances at winning the nomination drop significantly.
DeSantis has his own weaknesses as a candidate that have barely been examined on the national stage.
Nevertheless, my dream ballot would be a three way match up between Biden-DeSantis-Trump (as an independent). That way, we could kill two turds with one vote.

(981 posts)They know Trump can't win but trying to get rid of Trump is a daunting task because of the maga base. If these indictments take him out then he will be gone without anyone in the party having to get their hands dirty and they will be done with Trump once and for all.

(1,204 posts)Trump gets elected President from jail and DeSantis basically does all the work while the Asshole Supreme does nothing but mean-girl tweet and throw ketchup.
Magrats love nothing more than making a point in the most obtuse way, and this would satisfy their hunger plus make the ticket electable.

Demsrule86
(70,713 posts)close. I think you are borrowing trouble...most losers who run again lose again. We also won Arizona...for the first time since Clinton won in 96 and before that Truman won in 49...seems like a solid win to me. The GOP won all other years since 1912 when they joined the union.

(58,785 posts)poor record of predicting who will become Republican frontrunners AND their need to nevertheless produce incessant jabber over a year out. They have a very high fail rate, (JEB!, anyone?) and the "DeSantis-as-the-tRump-destroyer" image is a press construct.
As is their destructive "DeSantis-the-pudding-pig" theme right now. The press pack may already be bored with him and ready to discard and replace.
