It is primitive, but it works every single fucking time. All of us remember when he was supposed to give a speech all those years ago and was an hour and 15 minutes late routinely, and the camera would be fixed on an empty podium, and the commentators would be talking about him incessantly. In no way, shape, or form can anyone buy airtime like this for anything at all whatsoever.
Obviously, by stating that he was going to be indicted on a given day, that would cause incessant discussion from the moment he announced that to that day and beyond, precluding anything else that might be newsworthy. This whole business with him reminds me of a friend of mine, who in his 20s, took up with this woman who literally would not let him out of bed. She essentially destroyed his life by appealing to the basest of instincts, and he became addicted to that attention. He knew better, the entire time, but there he was, missing work, not interacting with anyone else, and diving into ruin. Of course, she left him for someone else on a moments notice, and there he was, empty, jobless, bereft, mourning the love of his life and has never been the same since.
This is how the media is with this jerkoff. They cant stop themselves, and in a crazy way you can make a case that Trump gets much more press than Biden does, and even if hes not the president, he is certainly the primary focus of attention in this nation and in his warped mind, that may actually be good enough. This whole thing is just so fucking sick and repulsive and the worst part is that years from now people in charge will throw up their hands and say, what were we to do? Or deny that this ever happened.
Which reminds me on this anniversary of the Iraq war of my classmate, who, years after the war, when we were discussing the complete and utter fallacy of its being, said who wouldve known that? Well, I replied, just about anybody with a brain
including the thousands who protested who could tell it was all lies a priori. How did we know? Because they said it was true.
What a circus we are living in.

(24,588 posts)1. Right after his announcement he sent out fund raisers.
2. It has been his strategy forever, to get ahead of the story.
3. To see if his Magat base and Congressional Magats will fight for him.
The M$M is owned and managed by right wing domestic oligarchs, I only watch Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow and other internet radio sources. I don't want to subject myself to propaganda talking points.

I hope this will convince a lot of people that he no longer has nearly as much support as he used to. I am SO sick of seeing him referred to as the GOP front runner. Imo, he's only the front runner because the media keeps insisting that he is. Get back to me when a few more people have actually declared they are running, please.

(4,121 posts)This very poor showing must not only grate him but also cause major heartburn, now knowing his MAGAT base is falling apart and no longer heeds his clarion calls. His lawyers must also be concerned as they won't be able to use his acclaim of massive protests at the courtroom, Bragg's office or Trump Tower. It's bitch, ain't it? LOL

(18,404 posts)I guess he conveniently forgot how many of his "base," including the chief organizers (Proud? More like Pathetic Boys!), are now in prison, on trial, or being held in custody until they go on trial for the services they rendered to him on J6!

I happened to see the beginning of Good Morning America this morning and the very first line of the show was, "All eyes are on Trump this morning". I wanted to vomit. That's exactly what he wants to hear.
From the very start, the media has played into his sociopathic schemes, especially the time he kept them waiting for more than an hour and the cameras still stayed focused on an empty podium. I will never forget that.

We have a judicial system.
Innocent until proven guilty.
Let the prosecutor do his job.
Let the judicial process play out where the evidence is on the table and a decision gets made based upon proven facts and the law.
But Trump tries to circumvent all that - smearing it as a political attack, etc and baiting people into trying to decide his innocence or guilt without the facts and evidence. We don't even know what the charges are yet.
Media was supposed to be the great arbiter for Democracy.
The oligarchs controlling 90% of the US media have corrupted the great arbiter.
The nation is split because the oligarchs want it that way - so they can retain power.
The nation is split because its media has consistently failed to deliver the truth to a people who would come down on the side of right every time if they know all the facts.
One day, these oligarchs going to wake up and the wonderful, powerful country they inherited won't be able to protect their wealth and family because they've weakened it so badly.
China, Russia and all the enemies of the United States love this infighting - because they win no matter who prevails in the US - so mush of our energy is distracted and wasted.
In my opinion, Rupert Murdoch is worse than any terrorist that has ever assaulted the United States.
He and his like are destroying the country with lies and opening wounds that were healing on wedge issues and racism, etc.
The United States has to face a lot of problems. It can do so united. Fractured, it cannot do so effectively. Without the truth, constantly debating lies, it cannot be united.
The real enemies should be outside of the borders. Unfortunately, they are among us clinging to power that would otherwise slip away from them and blind to the fact that in doing so, they are making all of us less secure.

I recall for one brief shining moment after BO's election, thinking the culture wars were over - him and his family being so "square" and wholesome - all-American.
Ahhh....halcyon days!
Divide and conquer. It's working. The oligarchs aren't worried about the system being able to protect them. They have private jets that can make it to their enclaves in New Zealand without refueling. Their private security services will take it from there.

(19,255 posts)I see your point all the way and agree with the assessment that attention is Trump's driving force, and was before he ran for the White House. He knows how to get his face on TV and eats up every second of the admiration it garners.
It's refreshing to see a hand written post instead of the usual cut & paste Tweet.

(18,404 posts)It proves 1) Trump is still a master of the fine art of drawing attention to himself, and 2) the media jumped the gun. It does not prove he isn't going to be indicted, in NY and/or elsewhere, and soon.
I think it also goes to show just how truly worried he is, which is just fine with me. I sincerely hope he never gets a good night's sleep again, for whatever remains of his miserable life.

(5,437 posts)and I give you many thanks. The media, especially in NY, leading up to 2016 knew all about what a creep this guy had always been but they pretended like he was freshly minted and newly discovered. Although I may have issues with some of the stances of Michael Moore, he was dead on the money several months ago when being interviewed (I think on MSNBC) when the interviewer kept on about the Orange Ruski and "why he is still a big thing etc." and why the "Biden accomplishments don't get much attention" and Michael just shot back words to the effect of "you all keep hanging on his every word and move and spend almost all of your air time every day talking about him rather than the good things taking place under Biden". Of course he was correct and I noticed the reaction of the host was mostly silence and then immediately moving to change the topic.
But on a more serious and constructive note could you fix me up with a "date" with this lady you describe?

(16,038 posts)that those long delays waiting for him to come late to the podium were contrived. But you are absolutely right! Everything that guy does is meant to garner attention good or bad. His whole existence is consumed with being the center of the universe.

(917 posts)I wrote a similar thread Sunday night when it became obvious Trump had lied about a Tuesday arrest and yet the media kept covering his BS truth/tweet as actual news.
[linkhttps://www.democraticunderground.com/100217739225|]
I texted excited friends on Saturday that Trump was lying and had no clue if and when he would be indicted and just using it to fund raise.
In all fairness though MSNBC did point out repeatedly all weekend that Trump's communications team said from the beginning that they'd had no idea what Trump was talking about.
