*Updated* As right on schedule, yet another school shooting at the historic Denver East High School

Last edited Thu Mar 23, 2023, 07:14 AM - Edit history (1)

Updated: Body (presumed but not yet verified to be shooter) has been found near his vehicle in Park County 8:15PM Wednesday Evening)

While initial reports are non-life-threatening injuries to two adult faculty, the fact that this incredible school was the site for a young student athlete's shooting (and later death) on a street near the school just a few weeks ago makes this all the more horrendous. Since that young man's death, students have conducted walk-outs and gone to the state legislature for more action on gun control and safety in schools. While most of you know the infamous Colorado school shootings (of which Columbine is only the most known), you may be unaware of how much gun control legislation has actually been successfully passed in its wake (and the aftermath of the Aurora theater shootings). Yet, it is only a drop in the bucket.

Years ago I lived near East High (which dates to 1875 and is architecturally just incredible bordering Denver's City Park) and it was a favorite walking locale for me with my last (still much-missed and beloved) dog. So this is especially hitting home for me.

For those who have never seen this historical landmark school,

Latest reporting on local news on the scene is still just the two adults with survivable injuries so hopefully it remains that way. Shooter left the scene but is not apprehended.

I can only hope no more victims are discovered.

DENVER — A juvenile male student at East High School is accused of shooting two staff members Wednesday morning as he was being searched for weapons as a part of a safety plan, the Denver Police Department (DPD) said.

"They were undergoing a search, and during that search, obviously a weapon, a handgun was retrieved and several shots were fired," DPD Chief Ron Thomas said.

The two staff members, both male administrators, were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of them was taken into surgery for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The second person was in serious condition but was able to talk with investigators.

The shooting was in an office area, away from other students. The student, who was not named, fled the school, but Thomas said they know who he is and were working to find him. He said they had not yet located him or recovered the weapon used. The suspect had been searched previously as part of the safety plan and no weapons were found, Thomas said.

Why was the kid packing when he knew there were searches? Because he's a adolescent male and is therfore likely dumb AF.

Where did the gun come from? Home or the black market? What consequences will follow? Likely none for anyone but the idiot kid.

what's been going on at East High in Denver.

I would have gone to East High back in the day but instead I went to live with my Grandparents in Eastern Colorado.

It's a beautiful School. So Sorry about the shooting death of the student a few weeks ago and the kid who shot the two Admins( I Hope they Survive!) this morning.. It is Horrifying.. no matter how many are attacked

After the shooting Wednesday, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock released a statement that called the decision to remove SROs a "mistake" and said, "we must move swiftly to correct it."

they expected him to show up armed. So today, he did, and he got 2 shots off while they were searching him.

I believe whoever got him the gun should be prosecuted. They don't fall out of trees.

Keeping him at school might have saved many lives: If he'd been suspended and expelled, he m ight have shown up in a situation where he'd have had access to many more people.

I hope he's in juvi until they can remand him to prison.

And I hope the gunhumpers are happy.

Guns are not complicated to manufacture and build at home, especially something with a simple design like a Glock pistol or an AR-15. A $300 3D printer and a free downloaded CAD file is all it takes to print a Glock frame, an AR receiver or the high capacity magazines they use, the non-regulated metal parts can be easily ordered online with no restrictions by anyone. They

Ammunition can be produced at home also fairly easily, especially with something simple like a cheap Lee Classic Loader.

Don’t think you are going to get more than a round or two off in a printed gun. Would need a metal barrel for sure.

Of fully functional 3D printed guns, they have a special class for them at some competitions now. Of course on a Glock style handgun with a printed frame you will need a metal slide and rifled metal barrel, but those parts are unregulated, no serial numbers or background checks, anyone can order them online and shipped.

Thousands of gun parts sellers out there, EBay has plenty of parts for sale also. The barrels, slides, trigger components etc are just considered parts, they aren’t the “firearm” by legal definition and can be sold just about anywhere by anyone.

He had to be searched everyday because he was such a problem.

And now he's still at large? They know who he is, so it won't be long I hope.

Meantime, there's a kid not afraid to shoot at people running around with a gun.

from real or imagined threats. And from the reports that he'd previously been searched, it's likely he had an accomplice at the school hold the weapon for him.

Now he's dead because he didn't want to face the consequences of his actions.

The suspect, later identified as Austin Lyle, fled the scene, police said. His car was found alongside a wooded road in nearby Park County on Wednesday evening, causing authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for nearby areas.

Later on Wednesday, the Park County Sheriff's Office said they found a body near the vehicle and lifted the shelter-in-place order, but it wasn't until Thursday morning that the county coroner's office confirmed the body was Lyle's.
