Teachers Matter..even after 24 years

We had dinner last night with our son & he related the following to us:

preface:...This was his 5th grade teacher. He was in the GATE program so there were only 10 students in class & they had such a wonderful year that year. Mrs G was a PHD teacher with connections to publishing (via her husband). She had those kids each write and publish their own book that year..They took many trips to UCR library and spent many long nights editing and re-editing.

She enriched their lives and never "took it easy" on them.

.........................................................................................

So .....last month, he was at Target (shopping for a tarp) and he saw her and a friend there. They chatted a bit and caught up, and as they were both leaving he saw that the bicycle she had just paid $20 to assemble (for a grandchild's birthday party later that day) was NEVER going to fit in her little car.

He drove that bike to Rancho Cucamonga (62 miles round trip) as she led the way there.

She was amazed that a student she taught 24 years ago would offer to help her on his day off...and that he had such fond memories of their year together..

He stayed for the party and reconnected with her kids (1 a year older than he is and one 2 years younger),
