Peekaboo is 20 years old And was in great health until about a month ago when they discovered cancer In his chin.
He has been slowly not eating and drinking as much until about 2 days ago when he almost pretty much stopped.
It is getting harder and harder for him to move around as well so looks like I get to have one last night with him before The trip to the veterinarian tomorrow.
Lost another 20 year old cat a year ago so it's kind of brutal.
But he had a great life and helped give me one as well.
Lots of hugs and snuggles tonight.

(4,455 posts)It's always heartbreaking to lose a pet. My 14 y.0. cats died during a horrible two-week period and it was rough on the whole family.
My sympathies to you.

(116,635 posts)I remember my last night, years ago with my 21-year-old; he looked so sad and sick I knew I had no other choice. And another was 16 and had cancer in his jaw - I spent his last night holding him in bed, knowing what he didn't know. But he, too, was sick and couldn't eat. It was time.
Lost two more old guys a month apart in the summer of 2020, and couldn't even be with them because of covid.
It sucks and I really feel for you. Safe passage, Peekaboo.

(82,010 posts)Savor this last night. You might want to trim a little tuft of fur - to keep. I dont know why I found that helpful, but it definitely was.
Safe passage, Peekaboo. You might meet Mousetrap and Goldie and many new friends.

(3,898 posts)I went through this last October. My 15-year-old cat Penelope had nasal lymphoma and like your Peekaboo she slowly stopped eating and drinking. She seemed to rally after a round of steroids, but I knew I'd have to let her go. Knowing when she would finally pass gave me the time to say goodbye as best I could.
I'm with you in spirit. It's a sadness like no other.

Just remember the good times and keep the thought that you gave your kitty the best life possible.

(2,050 posts)She was a little fuzz ball, orange and white long hair tabby, she belong to my kids but ended up living with me permanently
She didnt care for me at first but became my sweetness, she live nearly 20 years but came down with cancer and I had to let her go
Im an old guy but she didnt care, she would wait until my Yorkie was on my lap and then jump up on the chair and sit right on top of him to show him who was boss, but later on they did become sister and brother
The cat that owns me now is a long hair patched torbie with a bad attitude as she was a 1-1/2 year old stray when I picked her up from the Kitsap humane society, Penny has warmed up to me some luckily but she also convinced me that there are some cats that want to be loved and do actually return it every moment they can
It sounds like your cat was the same type
Sometimes you get lucky
Sorry about your loss 😥

Easy passing sweet kitty, the bridge is waiting.

(22,773 posts)and they know when they don't feel well and are suffering, but they don't have a sense of their own mortality and can't anticipate their own deaths as we can with both theirs & ours. They really live in the big "now" for the most part.
I have 2 cats, one 12, one 5. I'll likely outlive the older one but the younger one is more questionable. They are so bonded now that it will be hard on the younger one when her older buddy dies.
Unlike our children, the curse of loving our pets is the knowledge that we will likely outlive them.
Sorry for the passing of your furry friend.

(277 posts)Oh Garion, I am so sorry. I just lost my 19 year old kitty about a month and a half ago and it was brutal. I knew the time had come to let her go so I spent our whole last night sitting up with her and telling her "Please Jenny, tell me what you want me to do". She tried to stand up and couldn't so I knew that was her way of telling me. But again, my heart goes out to you.

(220 posts)We lost our 19-year-old cat back in 2009. It was hard, as you can imagine. I try to think of all of the funny times, the snuggling times, and all of the rest of the wonderfulness that cats give us.
Hang in there.
Sincerely,
Keith E. and Cheryl A. Cooper
