(54,420 posts)I hope the Governors of these states are still willing to call on Joe Biden for help, and not just their Bibles.
In a new version of the old joke:
Recently deceased tornado victim: "Lord, I prayed unto you, why didn't you save me?"
Friend in the sky: "I sent you Joe Biden. If that wasn't enough, nothing is. It was my rival who sent you Donald Trump and Tate Reeves. If you voted for them, that's on you."

(13,535 posts)found strange is we have been having tornadoes since January. I also find CA weather the last several months extremely unusual.

(601 posts)The storm was not an unprecedented occurrence. Geologic evidence has been found that massive floods, of equal or greater magnitude to the 18611862 event, have occurred in California roughly every 100 to 200 years.

(81,383 posts)When I was in whats now known as middle school, I remember one winter season that was cold, rainy and blustery, and thats about it. When there WAS rain, it tended to be too much too fast, and mudslides would reliably follow.
a meteorologist (he retired last year) that grew up in L.A. area of CA. He, as a child, became fascinated by weather. He would say most of the time when he was a child in L.A. the weather was pretty boring for the most part. He moved to Oklahoma to study meteorology in college in Norman, then became a weatherman in OK. City and eventually moving to KCMO.

(18,869 posts)of us in KCMO. But you never know. It could happen here. I would still take tornados over hurricanes.
scarletlib
(3,418 posts)But honestly I will take a hurricane over a tornado any day. With hurricanes you at least know they are coming and can prepare to hunker down or leave if you can.
txwhitedove
(3,929 posts)I choose neither. In OK we had sirens, great weather coverage and training on what to do. Tornados move in fairly straight NE direction so good gauge of whether you are in the path, plus lots of storm cellars. Tornadoes also sound like freight trains. In TX no sirens, spotty weather coverage, but love TX more. Did you know there can be tornadoes within hurricanes, allong with a 30 ft wall of water like Katrina. Hurricanes can hop around and change their target, last for hours with trees falling on houses, trees and houses stripped and peeled before actual eye hits, with shelter that actually breathes in and out with the strain of screaming winds outside, then fierce storm for an hour, then relative quiet although roof is still being stripped off and oh yes the water is rising in the house...
Just a note, Bay St. Louis, MS, looked much like these photos after Hurricane Katrina. No one deserves that pain, but nature and life happens.

(2,357 posts)structures. So terribly sad. At least with hurricanes there is plenty of warning and people can get out of the way. Not so with tornadoes, especially when they strike at night when people aren't at their most attentive. Always thought the gubmint ought to offer financial help for folks to install underground tornado shelters. Many coastal homes don't have basements.

Agree with a poster upthread - when you see trees snapped and bark stripped, you're talking at least a strong F4 if not a F5.
