of the Waco siege. Right wing DOMESTIC TERRORISTS blew up a federal building in Oklahoma on the second anniversary of Waco, as RETRIBUTION.
And Trump is kicking off his RETRIBUTION TOUR on the 30th anniversary of the Waco siege, in Waco. WTF? Why is THIS not the NUMBER ONE STORY on every news outlet? Instead of laughing at the toothless hillbillies in their Maga hats, and talking about the 'politics' of this, why are they not talking about what he's DOING?
Does he need to send a signed NOTE to the Attorney General saying "Hi! I'm Donald Trump, and I'm trying to incite MASSIVE DOMESTIC TERRORISM attacks, by linking my personal petty grievances to the biggest domestic terrorism act in U.S. history. Have you even noticed?"
This would be bad enough if the right wing domestic terrorist movement was only as big as it was in the early 1990s. But the modern domestic terrorist network is at least TEN TIMES the size it was in 1995, and is being ACTIVELY SUPPORTED by one of America's major political parties. MTG just finished visiting right wing domestic terrorists, who attacked the U.S. Capitol, in an attempt to overturn the election in jail; and told them the GOP has their backs. And suggested that a Republican President would pardon them all.
The fact that the regular press is not covering it from this angle is a complete dereliction of duty.

(21,894 posts)some of them weren't even born..... others have long forgotten it.... or they've forgotten who did it or why... I will always remember the front page of the LA Times with the building in flames.
and, wondering now, for the younger ones, was it taught in their history classes?

(5,466 posts)But they all know about Clinton sending in troops to burn out the Branch Davidians, at least that is their take. Expect him to commemorate Ruby Ridge in August since trying to highlight democrat abuses.

(5,845 posts)Stochastic terrorism:
Dehumanizing and vilifying a person or group of people can provoke what scholars and law enforcement officials call stochastic terrorism, in which ideologically driven hate speech increases the likelihood that people will violently and unpredictably attack the targets of vicious claims.
Why isn't this charged as criminal incitement, at least?
Criminal incitement refers to conduct, words, or other means that urge or naturally lead others to riot, violence, or insurrection.

(3,865 posts)Is next level authoritarianism. Holding a rally at a specific location/date is not terrorism or incitement.
We have free speech rights in this country and we have constitutional tests to determine when that speech is criminally dangerous.. I would suggest you look up a few of these basic ideas, starting with the Brandenburg Test.

(115,783 posts)It was done as retribution for Waco, and TFG's choice of Waco and the reasons for it have been noted many times. I don't think anyone is unaware of it. But it wasn't illegal for him to do it. He's getting damn close to incitement, but he hasn't met the Brandenburg v. Ohio test for incitement of imminent and specific violence - yet. I have no doubt the FBI is paying attention.

(43,236 posts)What kind of civilized society do you have without rule of law? The Social Contract is a major part of political theory for several centuries. Man gives rights to a government to protect us all. It's not like we're ignorant of the rules.

(32,086 posts)Federal law enforcement is his enemy, just as it was McVeigh's. As for why the media isn't covering this aspect, it's because they are fucking cowards.

(5,955 posts)...what is it they're afraid of? They're afraid of being called 'liberal.'
Um...hello. You get accused of being 'liberal' 1000 times a day on the right wing news channels. You may as well commit a 'crime' worthy of the punishment, by actually TELLING THE TRUTH!
Fox 'News' is bad enough, telling lies about the election because it's what their wingnut base wants to hear. But the other networks, who are supposed to be REAL journalists, are even WORSE! Failing to report the truth because it's what viewers on a FAKE news network DON'T want to hear.

I think the MSM is convinced that as long as they don't say anything that can overtly be turned against them, then they are safe enough from the incidental stuff. All of this is just to try and protect their incomes, as old school journalism seems on the verge of 'evolutionary extinction'.

(15,545 posts)That sums it up in a nutshell. In fact, just this morning I was watching the "news" and I am so glad they covered Reese Witherspoon getting a divorce! Now, if a hollywood star is getting a divorce, that is "breaking news".

(15,545 posts)It's difficult for those of us who grew up in an era where the nightly news was serious business, and not every thing was "breaking news".
I have always maintained that it's great to have choices but too many choices can be just as damaging as not enough choices, and not just in the news department. I went grocery shopping yesterday and there were two entire lengthy rows of cereal boxes, half of which are something I wouldn't feed my dog. And don't get me started on the chips and snacks aisle. That's always the busiest aisle in the store. Is it any wonder our people are so fat?

(15,545 posts)Interesting you should mention it that way. I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Also, I thought it was just a "thing" they did in my state. What's that all about anyway? I always want to say to them, "you're not supposed to push the cart with your stomach". It's not just old or heavy people either. I try to just get in and out of the store as quickly as possible.

(210 posts)Which illustrates how the decontextualizing and forgetfulness of the MSM is reactionary. The reactionary project is to present contemporary Republican atrocities as unprecedented, sui genesis, nothing like this ever happened before, so therefore these atrocities cant be an expression of underlying structural, systemic horrors that will circle around and bite again. When we start making the connections well, maybe that wont immediately set us free, but it can help us understand whats being done to us, and replace bewilderment with determination.

(7,284 posts)it's a staggering mind fuck. It could almost be considered a classic psyop-operation intended to destabilize a country.
Oh wait That is exactly what happened.
Russia installed this psychopath for their purposes, and operationally. it is still in effect.
Our media is either conscience or asleep. Either way, they are a significant contributor to the destruction of our democracy.
And we seem to be helpless to "do anything about it". Because, what can we do other than express our outrage on a message board.
And we do that, the unwitting, "legal eagles brigade", defenders of the status quo, come swooping in like gangbusters, hurling "anti-Biden" accusations along with condescending preoperative remarks like "whiners". As if any of this had anything to do with the Biden administration. It's Putin and Trump et al.
We can't bring Putin to justice But we can and should bring his puppets to justice.
It's just too hard to deal with it in real time I guess. Which makes Putin's Victorious in his aim destabilize our country to the extent he was able to accomplish. Trump is free to continue that agenda for him. And the faithful servants in the media continue to aid and abet.
