“Virginity” as a concept is a social construct. Conservative fundies around the world seem to think of the hymen as a “freshness seal” that shows if a girl is a virgin or not. This is completely false and clueless.

Like 99.9% of hymens do not cover the entire vagina. This allows period blood to get out. Some girls are born without them at all, or, born with a barely-present hymen.

The hymen is a thin, useless membrane in the vagina, but, serves no actual purpose. It’s formed when our bodies form in the womb and just kind of stays there as left over tissue. It doesn’t actually do anything or protect anything.

There is no actual way to determine virginity from an exam. This is nonsense. Doctors who do “virginity exams” are quacks, or, have no medical knowledge of how vaginas work.

Finally, tampons can usually just be inserted without disrupting anything. Using them doesn’t disrupt or break anything. The same is true with getting pelvic exams. The problem is, many people, including doctors, sadly, are completely fucking clueless how womens bodies work.
