(5,009 posts)I counted number of people in a block of the bleachers, counted the number blocks.
Counted the number of rows and columns of seats.
I estimated 2000 based on that. So maybe 4000 if I had made an egregious error of some sort in my method.

(8,152 posts)It was reported after the rally was over - not beforehand as a prediction regarding how many were 'expected' to be there.
Looks like NPR should check their sources better.

(24,435 posts)Not sure why DU is obsessed with how many people went to this rally. 2,000, 5,000, doesn't matter.
What I do think is funny is that he had this crown standing on blacktop in the sun for hours.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
