I don't believe that Trump will run in '24, because he will have a physical and/or mental breakdown before then - probably before the end of this year.
He is acting more deranged, more unhinged, more out-of-control than he's been in the past - which is saying a lot. He is making statements that even the most reliable ass-kisser Republicans are finding it impossible to cover for.
And ALL OF THIS maniacal behaviour was triggered by one looming indictment - so one wonders what MORE indictments, MORE lawsuits, MORE testimony and evidence will do to an already adle-brained idiot who is as delusional as he is determined to take the entire GOP with him if he goes down.
Over the next few months, the Republican party will have to distance itself from Trump's increasingly-deranged statements, and his obvious calls for violence. They will have no choice but to do so, if they want to survive politically.
Donald Trump's brain is melting as we speak, and we're watching it in REAL TIME!!!

(16,922 posts)trump has allowed the inner evil to come out in a lot of folks who hid it for all their lives.
And they like it.....
you seem to think republicans have shame.....
I am not so sure

(27,835 posts)But they still want to win elections.
And backing a deranged lunatic who is dividing their party is not a means to that end.

(11,164 posts)They do not want to win elections. They want to do away with elections and just rule forever. They are not even trying to hide this fact anymore. They lust for an oligarchy in every way (not just in most ways like we have now). It is true that they will need to visibly distance themselves from that gibbon before the election so that they can get someone in there, but once they do, watch what happens. As stated above, the 'we hate what we don't understand' is out and about now and that cat is going to be very difficult to get back in the bag using 'soft' tactics. They will do their level best to remove elections that they cannot win and then they will break up districts so that the blue areas cannot hope to elect anyone. It is all in their 'Rule the World' playbook. They are literally becoming comic book villains now. We need to treat them as such.

Still its hilarious watching everything come down to mememememememememe. Apparently the narcissistic criminal shared out props with witch-hunt for the wacko rally.

(15,371 posts)nominee. The base is not the leadership of the party. Leadership would like nothing more than to see Trump fade quickly from popular exposure. But leadership is a minority.
The base --- I live in New Jersey, fercrisakes. Drive into southern and western N.J. and you will see Trump signs and flags. And they are new. And you can also see "Brandon" signs. There are Repukes who support DeS, Nikki or a couple of others. Together, if they could coalesce behind another Repuke, they could win. But they won't.
The only hope we have is if Trump has a debilitating physical collapse. But then we have DeS to defeat. I think that will be more difficult. He presents as being more "sane."
Regarding Trump's sanity. While his pronouncements have become more unhinged, he is still the leader in polls. The yahoos love his bullshit.
Now, on our side. I think Joe is doing a great job. But it doesn't get sufficient recognization. Then, there is his age.
I am 80...turned 80 in October. I am in great health. If you want to know how great my health is, you can come on one of my hikes with me this week and see if you can keep up with me, climbing the hills of western N.J. Mentally, I think I am as sharp as the utility knife in my backpack. AND I DON'T EVEN TAKE PREVAGEN. But to know how sharp I am, I would have to step outside of my self to see.
The point is, I think I can handle a political office. But could I convince others? I think Joe can go on for another six years. But will the voting public? That is the problem with Joe as our candidate.
And so it goes.

(28,286 posts)...but as he gets increasingly unhinged, people will gradually see it, and turn to other candidates. His unhinging will feed his loss of supporters, and his loss of supporters will feed his unhinging--a vicious, self-feeding circle, expanding and spiraling downward. A negative Don Quixote, with a total collapse at the end; a dying star, burning hotter until the end, then exploding in a cataclysm of gas and charged particles before utterly collapsing into a dark cloud of nothing. Expect it to be ugly.

(32,349 posts)was to prevent being indicted and or convicted. His stall tactics worked quite well until Jack Smith came on the scene.
I get tired of my defending that DOJ failed to investigate Trump for a year or longer. People should Google why a judge would not allow E. Jean Carroll to combine her 2 Trump lawsuits. One of the lawsuits is being defended by Merrick Garland and even though a district judge has ruled against Garland the Appeals court has not ruled yet. Does anyone believe that Garland would have gone directly to a District court and demanded that Trump lawyers be forced to testify because of the crime/fraud clause? Garland would have let it play out in all 3 courts.
Trump ran for president to keep from being indicted, the Iowa caucus is this January.

(4,992 posts)Weve been hearing this for years now. Hes melting down, The GOP will have to distance and blah, blah, blah. And none of that EVER happens. If they havent done it already they never will and it doesnt matter what he says or does. Theyre his punks, he owns them.
And thats because the Republican base loves what he does, they are him and they wont abandon him. So the party has to stick with him.
Hell be the nominee and well crush him in the general.

I believe many in the GOP are fighting not for Trump or even Trumpism but for the survival of the GOP, NRA, NRC, etc. Much dirt out there on all of them...and we know Trump loves revenge.
