The power of an assault weapon.

(5,756 posts)way to gain entry through secured doors. Did it many times in the service. A rifle or handgun will work in a pinch but potentially take many more rounds with a higher potential failure rate. Most entry teams will have one or more members with shotguns (in addition to their regular load out) just for this purpose.

(5,756 posts)definitely was not about the power of an assault weapon. Don't get me wrong, assault weapons (and maybe more importantly their ammunition dynamics) are VERY efficient in doing maximum harm to bodies they hit - they just are not designed for breech operations.

(26,464 posts)My church runs a day care. It's a liberal church that RW extremists and Evangelicals would definitely not agree with. For security, all doors in the building are locked all day, every day. There is only one door that any one can enter by. It has a buzzer and intercom for identifying yourself. A church employee can buzz you in or refuse to.
But if someone shoots open the door, those kids wouldn't have a chance.
Do we have to have armed guards at every institution in the country now?

(26,464 posts)People still need to get buzzed in for services on Sundays, but usually somebody is near the only entrance door that we use now and can open it from the inside for people that they know.
During Sunday School and regular church services, one member who has past military experience stands in a hallway that gives him a view and quick access to any breach of any of the entrances. He carries a concealed gun.
But he's not there on weekdays, AFAIK. I don't know what security there is on weekdays besides the locked door.

(22,997 posts)You can have a school, that's easy to escape in a fire, or a prison, which isn't.
No, it's not the job of the schools to stop gun violence.
