If somebody outed him - who? Internal investigation in the CIA or some other agency or person?

as the agents in charge of various stations. He will have access to that information, but then again, so would the President or certain members of Congress if they requested it (this is based on having worked with a former covert CIA operative who later was on the staff of a member of Congress -- he had some pretty wild stories to tell).
