(5,343 posts)Willing to stand up and call the magotts out the moment they spout their ignorant crap & hypocrisy, instead of always being concerned about the optics of taking the "moral high ground, and good manners." It's time to start calling the assholes, assholes, loudly, often, publicly, and directly to their face.

(23,342 posts)I knew of a Clarksville physician who criticized her, and "mysteriously" ended up on Bush's no-fly list.
She (the doctor) did a lot of charitable work in the third world, which of course required her to fly often.
My understanding was that before long, she was removed from the list - she had no doubt who was behind it.
Now - can you imagine the Marsh Thing as President?
She'd make Elena Ceausescu look like Jill Biden.
Is exactly right. I live in Tennessee and she is the worst of the worst. I really cant think of anything nice to say about her. I will never vote for someone like her ever.

Praying to your sky-god for comfort will NOT change the fact that these children and their caregivers will never see another sunset, will never smile at their mothers, spouses, or neighbors again.
Your cynical political calculus values your own power over innocent lives.

or,
it would take rebuilding the legal and social restrictions that once kept people within the bounds of healthy social behavior to a higher degree than now. As our nation stands now, most of them have been systematically torn down over the last 10-15 years. Thus allowing GOP supporters to act like selfish children.
Imagine if we had a big enough movement promoting values like love, generosity, anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-ableism, etc., etc.. It's a tall order though, as they are getting increasingly more radical supportive messaging from both their political and religious leaders.

(53,214 posts)is escalating, eventually pretty much everyone in the country will have been affected by a mass shooting. Do these heartless monsters have to lose a child, grandchild, spouse, sibling, or parent before they realize the need for sensible legislation is urgent? Because it is obvious they are totally incapable of empathy. If it doesn't happen to them, then it isn't their concern.

I can almost hear some of the Republicans in that area:
"I dunno much about her politics - but I do like the sound of her name!"

(22 posts)I agree with Newsom. These Congressional representatives who tell you how sorry they are about the shootings of children really dont care. If they did they would take actions to try to stop this from happening. They always say their prayers are with these poor parents. Their prayers mean nothing. They really dont care. These killings go on and on. Nothing changes. Newsom cares. He has children. The rest I dont know how they sleep at night.

(22,212 posts)a good goddamn. She could care less. Another Repuke, Steve Scalise, was shot and damn near killed by a mass shooter, and STILL lives comfortably in the NRA's back pocket. I don't understand these people.

(6,017 posts)By that latter bit, I mean a Democratic administration or two *after* the GOP's un-American, un-democratic obstructionist mechanisms have been blocked or dismantled. He'd be really good in that fight as well, but Dems have a habit of sitting back when we have power & "reaching across the aisle" a bit too much for my taste. As California has shown, he tends to use it as a chance to push the needle to the left, hard.

(7,632 posts)Is it just the money that keeps these repub idiots from passing some laws against gun reform? I am having trouble trying to figure out why these pro-gun people feel there is no need for long overdue change. I bet if some poor member in their family was a victim, there would be a quick change of position.
Whenever I see a picture of some gun-toting idiot with his gun on his hip as he walks around, I want to scream. As to the military weapons..they should be confiscated.
To the states which allow this, shame. I hope you never come close to a tragedy like all of those this past year.
As I remember from the news yesterday, there have been 135 mass shootings since March this year. How disgusting is that?

(25,315 posts)Perhaps politicians live in fear of losing those gun-lover votes.
No other country seems to have been so spellbound by the arms industry.
I've been posting this or similar today.

They're trying to hold off a demographic tide.
In the short term, "energize the base", a minority who are trying to cheat their way to power.
But they are selling away the future.
Such is the nature of greed. It's alway short-sighted and destructive.
In an earlier post I made today:
Gun fanatics live lives of fear.
Florence Shinn, in her book "The Game of Life and How to Play it" says:
And that "man attracts what he fears"
Gun fanatics live lives of fear, rather than faith.
They will be enlightened sooner or later, and perhaps the ministers of fear, including Rupert Moloch, will get their due.
But we can all set an example of living in hope rather than fear.
And raise a wave of public opinion.
Politicians live by votes and bucks.
Despite dirty tricks, (i.e. bucks buying votes) votes do count more.
At some point, people will reach some kind of tipping point that can't be countered by the propaganda mills and lobbyist$.
