This post is very narrowly intended to recognize the bravery of the two cops who went into a confined space where they knew they would face the designed-to-cut-humans-in-half-and-reduce-their-organs-to-a-slurry spew of a weapon wielded by someone with nothing to lose and intent on killing them.
That's what cops SHOULD do in a case like this. They didn't dither and cower like the weasels and cowards in Uvalde, waiting for who knows what. These two guys did their jobs in an exemplary manner.
Please don't make this about anything except what these two guys did on that day and in that place

(3,359 posts)The sirens blaring, the police firing their weapons as they move through the school. The children in their classrooms hearing this, how absolutely terrifying.

(1,746 posts)and I feel a little sorry for them.
Killing anything, human or not (even when necessary), wears on you.
They won't be the same.
Nor will the parents, siblings, classmates.........

(3,023 posts)...They represent the America that made America famous.
(And before I'm jumped on - the shooter represents American infamy, not America.)

(111,612 posts)and should be honored for it. It was their choice to go in like that and it worked out well, they are now heroes.
It might not have, so I'll stop short of requiring this of police when there is no cover, there are no windows, and it could easily be suicide. I would expect them to take a few minutes to develop a plan to distract the shooter long enough for someone to go in and make sure he doesn't shoot anyone else.

(15,233 posts)I dont know how the piece of shit coward cops down there can look at themselves in the mirror. Complete disgrace.
These two officers in Tennessee who DID THEIR JOB are heroes and should be acknowledged as such.
Please dont forget Uvalde. The parents down there are being stonewalled and villanized by the good ole boys network that runs the town.

(5,104 posts)in this case responded just as one might hope professional and well-trained officers might respond. Utterly unlike Uvalde. These officers acted swiftly and no doubt saved lives.
I would not recommend watching the footage to those who are already feeling unsettled.
Just a dreadful situation.
