Just occurred to me I have no idea why this seems to be almost a done deal.

(7,515 posts)She's exhausted. She has said she would not serve a second term.

(14,040 posts)She'd like to read a book (or was it write one). Not have to worry about hair and make-up. I think she's tired. She's 65, she's earned some time off. Though some will argue that she's gearing up for 2016 but she's said twice now that she isn't running for President again.

and I wasn't a fan in 2008
I am now.
She earned her loyalty
btw, she is the same age as the legendary female leader Golda Meir was when she charted a new course through history.
one should be ashamed of themselves for mentioning age in 2012.
sheesh, do we want a young pup like Paul Ryan?I would hope not.

(14,040 posts)She has said she plans to write another book and continue fighting for womens rights. Her husband told CBSs Face the Nation that he has no earthly idea what shell do, but that she is tired and needs a break.
So, as the first former first lady to serve in a presidents cabinet prepares to step down, lets take a look back at some of the many reasons we heart Hillary.

Saying that she can't do something because she's 65 is sexist, stating her age is not.

(11,464 posts)and I will bet you Mitt's 10grand that you are wrong
"she does not have plans"
means
she will be 45.
there is NO other choice, unless you want a republican to win.
Obama himself said he wasn't running in 2008 til he did
as did JFK RFK Teddy, Jimmy Carter and every other person but LBJ who remained true to his heart and word in 1968, even though he would have kicked Nixon's ass.

(14,040 posts)if she does decide to run, I'll support her. If she wins the primaries, I'll support her, if she's nominated, I'll support her but to think that we can't win in 2016 without Hillary is nearsighted and defeatist.

(15,036 posts)I'm 58, lift weights an hour or more a day and walk 4 to 5 miles a day. All I take are vitamins. My wife is 57, has RA, and though not debilitated is certainly not "in her prime." Her condition is no fault of hers, and my condition (given all the abuse I heaped on my body in my youth) is certainly not attributable to "clean living" or any lifelong desire to live to a healthy old age.
I hope Hillary is fit and able to campaign in '16. But if not, that won't be anything to fault her for.

Can we at least respect What the Woman herself has said before you go around excoriating other people with such labels?

(11,464 posts)every single major politician doesn't say they are running 4 years ahead. Obama didn't either
you gotta be naive to think anyone would announce
AND HILLARY IS BY LAW NOT ALLOWED TO WHILE SOS
It is NOT a political job
like 'duh
I would think people here were smarter
Do you think Bill worked his ass off without knowing Hillary was running and that Obama was supporting her?
btw-just a fact- Elizabeth Warren IS THE SAME AGE AS HILLARY.
you do realize that, don't you

(3,941 posts)years are worlds apart. Hillary has been a great Secretary of State, she has worked her butt off, logged millions of miles traveling to deal with some of the most difficulty situations in the WORLD. Before that she was a hard driving Senator, and before that First Lady with daily attacks to herself and her family and before that First Lady of Arkansas and before that.... she has always worked for the good of our country and its citizens.
Give the lady her due, if she says she wants to rest and enjoy life, so be it. That's not to say a couple of years of chilling out and she won't be ready for another fight but I take her at her word. She has earned our respect, well wishes and our undying thanks for the jobs she has done.
And I would be proud to call her President Clinton if she changes her mind.

(60,339 posts)And not too many stay more than 4 years in that position.
The whole cabinet and staff will evolve over the next few months and look nothing like the current cabinet.

(11,464 posts)most people only stay one term in the cabinet positions
and she has done a major good spot-on job
I salute her and will vote for her in 2016
only reason she lost in 2008 was that us Obama voters voted for him.
With her loyalty to him the last 4 years, she earned my and our vote and shall destroy Jeb Bush in the general election 2016

(11,589 posts)to actually listen to what she has said about 2016.
If you respect her, respect what she has said. And maybe you should wait another few years before dedicating your vote.
Right now, I'm pretty glad that the guy who earned my vote on Tuesday is POTUS -still.

SoS has to be a mentally and physically exhausting job. She gave her all from being SoS, to her role in her husband's presidency.

(11,936 posts)Its a grueling job with high stress, long hours and neverending jet lag. Given that any particular President is doing his/her job as they should be, the SOS is arguably the second hardest job in government.

Whatever it is, she's let it be known for some time now she will stop being SOS sometime after '12 elections.
I say let her do as she pleases with nothing but a THANK YOU! from all of us.

(4,840 posts)She had a relatively great run as SOS, well, until the Benghazi attack, which may or may not mar what still was a stellar performance in that position. If she gets out now, she has an almost perfect performance as SOS under her belt, she stays out of politics for four years and, in so doing, avoids any possible political controversy or criticism, she then coasts to a presidential nomination in 2016. Very good strategy.
