And I had just been saying that very thing to the very young woman who comes by to run the vacuum for me. She looked a bit puzzled, I explained that I remember Watergate, and had Nixon been indicted none of the present mess would have happened.
And I can't help wondering if Gerald Ford's place in our history will gain a more honest footnote.

The pardon may have been slightly beneficial for the country in the very short-term (maybe), but it did irreparable damage in the long term. Presidents since then have acted with impunity knowing they would not face real consequences.
