Only one person is to blame for the tribulations of Donald J Trump.
Although weak and naive people will follow him, like the vermin followed the Pied Piper, it was always he that was playing the flute.
He needs the greedy politicians of the Republican Party and the Red Hat Brigade in order to remain relevant. He wants their money because once they give their money, their souls will follow.
Will we remain a nation a men or a nation of laws? Unpatriotic men will follow the siren song of criminality and curse the rule of law. They will pretend an "indictment" is the same as a hangman's noose.
Meanwhile, some will say, "Don't show me the indictment - show me the conviction!"
This is a test for our democracy. This is a test for our judicial system. If no one is above the law, then this is a road we must travel. This is a test we must take.

(7,632 posts)I think some prosecutors actually might have held back a bit not wanting to be the first to indict a President, former or not.
I hope Bragg has a strong case because if it fails, though that be a year or more from now, it plays right into the MAGA claim of a political vendetta. Of course, meanwhile other indictments will follow.
But I don't think Bragg would have dared to proceed if there wasn't a strong case with tons of evidence such that a neutral, fair jury wouldn't find him guilty on some counts at a minimum and Bragg is no dummy. He knows what is at stake here.

(111,092 posts)But it has to be done. If this is the hill that the Republicans wish to die on, then I would question their judgment.
As Jim Morrison sang, "The future's uncertain ....." In my opinion, the events of today will lead to the future that we determine. If we sit back, and do nothing but complain, or assume that some hero will save us, we are done. On the other hand, we are in a wonderful position to make full use of today's events -- for example, to take actions to prepare for 2024's elections -- to help move forward as a democracy. That requires the grass roots to be active participants.
