Criminals like Trump are presumed "innocent" only within the context of the legal system. It's not something that applies to those not charged with a crime, for obvious reasons. Thus, for reasons that the media considers legal protections, they use this along with "alleged" to describe even the very worst criminals, be they an accused mass shooter or Trump.

if the media neglected to make that important nod toward presumption of innocence. We’d never hear the end of things like ‘the media is lynching our client publicly’ or ‘wokeness is suspending rule of law’.

most people pronounce innocence or guilt long before a trial, and they don't change their minds even after the trial. Most people think O J Simpson is guilty of murder even though he was acquitted in court.

media prejudiced the jury and give cause for appeal or mistrial. Of course they will anyway though.
