General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat the media is doing now is how this monster tfg was created
M$M doing minute-by-minute coverage of the plane sitting on the tarmac, of the SUV detail rolling through the streets of Palm Beach, etc, etc.
M$M created this monster and they are continuing to feed it. They have learned nothing. And its all in the name of fking ratings.
That's the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different results.

(4,616 posts)The MSM survives by ratings. Ratings are viewers. So, if you're watching endlessly, well, I'll just let that thought sit there for a minute

(8,923 posts)he's not an unknown..he's reviled ...as to the media..yes, they are still covering his every vomitus verbal fart as breaking news but if you listen carefully the tone of their non-stop coverage has changed..no longer the president of the United States demanding a modicum of respect and no longer afraid of his targeting profane insults, the media now portrays Trump as a bloviating freak, horrifyingly entertaining, and slowly sliding into dementia and irrelevancy...

(170,746 posts)One of my sisters texted that exact thing earlier.
And they probably will do that - at least the major networks through their internet streaming feeds and most certainly the cable news stations (most likely as a split screen with reporters at the airport and at various other locations).

(170,746 posts)You got that right. Stay tuned for a brand new, seat-of-the-pants (fake) "reality show" the next couple days.
The media is justifying their coverage as this being "historic" but they don't seem to know how to to truly cover "historic" without providing what amounts to free political advertising since he IS officially declared as a candidate.

(170,746 posts)started some egg plant seeds, fertilized my little basil seedlings, started some cilantro, thyme, and oregano... made a pot roast, made some Filipino adobo chicken, and assembled a height extender for one of my mini greenhouses. Since it is warming up here the next couple days, it will be time to start the garden cleanup! Also will start making some "sides" for my sister's get-together this coming Sunday. So definitely not plenty to do (not including replacing the hard drive in my main laptop that is on my to-do list
).

(9,892 posts)The corporate owned MSM functions to groom and mislead in the drip drip drip into fascism and increased concentration of wealth and power and likely more war.
What we are fed by MSM is deliberate but in different flavors for a deliberately segmented society.
Otherwise agree with you.
Not good.

..things would be different today?
Trump started lying, maligning and corrupting the Office during his inauguration speech, and has continued to do so ever since. He violated all the norms, violated his oath, violated numerous statutes, tried to overturn the 2020 election and ended his stint with the grande finale, an attempted coup d'état. And all the while, right wing media and social platforms were proclaiming him the greatest President the country ever had. WTF?
I can see your side of the argument; but in Trump's case 'ignoring the problem and it will go away' simply wasn't a valid strategy. There wasn't enough coverage to suit me. One of the 3 networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) should have had a 24/7/365 banner running at the bottom of the screen:
"WARNING: Donald J Trump is a clear and present danger to our Democracy. Do NOT believe anything he says"

Im not watching any of it- if Rachel shows a highlight reel tonight, Ill catch that, and I will monitor print media for any updates tomorrow.

(11,767 posts)When CNN launched with their coverage of "shock and awe" and then the era of following the police helicopters for "high speed chases", which incidentally increased the occurrence of high speed chases, that was when things went downhill for "news". Chasing ratings and having to fill 24 hours of a day with "news" was never a good strategy for actually having an informed public.
Wrong incentives. The most "breaking" and salacious and scandalous "news" is what brings in viewers. It isn't about getting it right these days, it is about getting it quick and getting the "hottest take".
As long as the money incentivizes this behavior, we will continue to have this behavior.
Same thing as the paparazzi and celebrities. We can't get enough of the vapid scandals of the rich and famous. I guess it helps take our mind off of the fact that we are being "entertained" to death.
