(3,213 posts)in peaceful protest. I hope that gets overturned in court since it's a clear 1st Amendment violation.
It's amazing how much Republicans truly hate every part of the Constitution they claim to support so much.
I just hope young people get out and vote in bigger numbers. Their turnout rate is still very low compared to older people.

(3,570 posts)The Southern elites were never punished and they never went away and never stopped fighting.
They began resisting every effort at Reform during Reconstruction. After the North removed federal troops they made laws that essentially re- enslaved Black people until the Civil Rights movement in the 60s
All that stuff about the New South was just bullshit.
What we have in the South today and sadly in some other states is a Neo-Confederacy.
The poison of white supremacy runs deep here and I dont know if we can ever overcome it.

(3,570 posts)Tennessee is a beautiful state. I miss it but wouldnt live there now. So sad to see ultra radical Republicans take over the state. Of course, DeSantis is doing the same thing in Florida.
My family roots in Tennessee go back to the founding of the State.

(26,446 posts)school and college walkout day in support of responsible gun laws and a ban on assault weapons.
And another nationwide protest by employees of public businesses, especially retailers, demanding an end to gun violence. That would include theaters, supermarkets, chains like Walmart, etc.
And another nationwide protest by churches, synagogues, and mosques against gun violence.
Still another nationwide protest by victims of police gun violence, especially POC.
So many of us have a direct connection to this fight. We need to publicly show our demand for and commitment to an end to gun violence through reponsible gun laws. Our leverage is that, with enough of us dedicated to the needed changes, we can vote out the NRA's puppets.
