Tenn. State Rep Asks Protesters What Gun They'd Prefer To Be Shot With

A Tennessee politician attempted to school some students protesting gun violence at the Tennessee Capitol on Monday, but he missed the mark by a long shot.

The students were reacting to a recent shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville that led to the deaths of three children and three adults.

State Rep. William Lamberth agreed to talk with the protesters, but had a weird way to trying to win a debate with students worried about getting shot in class.

Lamberth’s approach was to ask the students which firearm they’d prefer to be shot with.
“If there is a firearm out there that you’re comfortable being shot with, please show me which one it is,” he asked rhetorically.

Lamberth probably thought the question he asked the protesters was deep and Socratic, but it came across as heartless ― especially when accompanied by a shrug.

“So you’re not going to like my answer, and, look, I’m going to say that straight up,” Lamberth warned. “It’s not about this one gun.”

6. if we are going to ban assault rifles

we need to talk about why. What is it about these sorts of weapons ( other than their military "looks" ) that makes them worth banning.

This isn't gun porno, it's facts. We say these are weapons of war (which doesn't speak well of war either)... we need to show people that this is true.

And, I saw many posts on DU that called for the slain children and teachers to be viewed on TeeVee... including a simulation video.

which is put in charge of banning videos which glorify how cool guns are and allowing videos which condemn the harm they cause.

Otherwise, allowing both types of videos just brings us Musk-style free speech absolutism.

the other option is to show actual bodies shot by handguns versus AR-15s. I chose not to show that.

The asshole repuke politician was attempting to make all guns "the same" by asking the young people protesting "which would you chose to be shot by"... trying to make the point that if we only ban assault rifles, they can still be shot by handguns and, you know, being shot is being shot so why ban assault rifles?

Showing that there IS a difference between them is more like scientific facts, not hysteria.

BTW, when I was 12, one of my best friends was killed by a shotgun (to the back of the head)... and it could have easily have been me had my father allowed me to go with my two friends "hunting"... but there being no adult present, he would not let me go.

And I can, still to this day, remember my friend's mother screaming at the funeral. Those screams are NOT what you will ever forget.

It was a closed casket funeral.

So your shock over the damage that guns can do is ill placed here. We need to absolutely confront people with what an assault rifle can do to a human body.
