Now here's an issue I agree with republicans on.

Having nearly been run over a number of times on my bicycle.

(AP) - Democratic Gov. Tony Evers announced Monday that he has signed a Republican-authored bill that would allow local governments to impound repeat reckless drivers’ vehicles.

The legislation is part of a Republican push to crack down on reckless driving around the state but particularly in Milwaukee. Rep. Bob Donovan, one of the bill’s sponsors, said in written remarks submitted to the Assembly public safety that the Milwaukee Police Department issued 497 citations for reckless driving in 2022. That’s up 32% from 2021.

The bill allows counties and municipalities to pass ordinances allowing police to impound reckless drivers’ vehicles if the driver has a prior reckless driving citation and hasn’t paid the forfeiture for that offense.

3. I wonder if the WI GOP would also agree to impound guns from those who abuse them.

For example, an abusive husband who uses his guns to threaten his wife.

Are such laws on the books in Wisconsin? Are they enforced? Or would that be a violation of the abuser's Sacred Second Amendment Rights?

4. Why do Democrats bend over backwards to give Republicans credit?

A Democratic governor signed it into law and, from what I can tell, all but one Democrat voted for it in the Wisconsin Senate (not sure of what the vote was in the other chamber since I can't track down its version of the bill).

It seems like a case of an actual bipartisan bill, and yet Republicans get credit for it -- from a Democrat, no less.

5. So why hadn't any Democrats pushed for this, prior to this year?

It looks to me like Democrats dropped the ball, and republicans picked it up and ran with it.

6. You're giving very much this:

And you do realize that the vast majority of Republicans are inherently anti-Democratic (and anti-democratic, for that matter...), yes? If a Democrat had pushed this -- do you have evidence they did not? -- I wouldn't be surprised at Republicans NOT supporting it simply because it came from a Democrat. Democrats, on the other hand, are not willing to sacrifice good legislation simply to "own the cons," not that that's a thing anyway, but "owning the libs" certainly is a thing for the vast majority of those on the right.

7. Oh, I absolutely do know repubs can be almost entirely bad.

Key word, "almost."

Here in Wisconsin the Tavern League fights tooth and nail against just about any drunk driving laws.
And they pretty much entirely support repubs.

But like a blind pig finding an acorn, they can do the right thing. Now that's *IF* they are actually doing it for the right reason.

It won't surprise me if a repub owns an impound lot, or one of his or her relatives does.
