General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have a theory which is mine, belongs to me, and is mine too:
My theory is that Trump has told key individuals such as Lindsay Graham, many other elected officials, the Attorney General, various House members, individuals in the intelligence community, and certain others that he knows enough to bring down the US Government as it stands as well as individuals personally and that is the reason for the loyalty.
The info he obtained in his position as President plus what Putin gave him is sufficient to wreak havoc. This information would be positioned to be released if anything untoward happened to him and/or his family.
If you honestly think he wouldnt do this, you have not been paying attention sufficiently.

(23,297 posts)the kind of information that would "bring the country down". And what kind of information would that be? Space Aliens? There is no Easter Bunny? I've often wondered about the nutcases that talk about the Illuminati, chemtrails, and the Rothchilds. If those entities control the world, so what?
Who the spies are and perhaps the safe houses, or nuclear submarine protocols
or anything which is harmful. Im certain there are a thousand things which we have no idea about that are critical to the stability of the US.
And if you think we were so very competent, recall the line of dialogue from one of the Die Hard movies, which was something like Dont ever forget that It took five days to get water to the Superdome after Katrina.

(2,262 posts)Would anything he spouted be believable to the normal world?
I suspect he is a blackmailer. But most sane people he has attacked have survived his bluster.
Should he have access to intelligence that matters?
No doubt, but I'd bet the intelligence community has shifted away from his knowledge over the last two years.
He has probably compromised us already.
I'd read that the intelligence community only provided him with boiler plate stuff and I'm confident he was excited to be in the know.
If he commits treachery, I would hope he would be pulled away from a microphone, regardless of MAGAT world.
I do fear his treachery, however. He didn't look too thrilled yesterday.

(15,412 posts)Trump brought millions of people to the GOP who were non-voters. Without this new mass of people, the GOP was surely on the way out.
Trump has threatened many times to run as a 3rd party candidate. The GOP is dead if that happens.
Lindsay and the lot need to kiss his ass to keep him from doing that.
I can't think of any information that could sink any of them. And how does that bring down the government?
No. It's blackmail of another sort.

(20,516 posts)to have the government disintegrate.
They have been attempting to do that for decades. Koch etc would rejoice. No more EPA, FDA, IRS, EEOC, etc. A few years of chaos, then they are in charge. The only responsible choice, ya know
serious men with responsibility and honor.

(73,594 posts)Some of the highly classified documents he stole were intelligence from two of our allies. This is one of the reasons that Jack Smith was appointed to handle the investigations.
This, of course, is part of the difficulties that the ex-president is threatening those you note with.

(11,744 posts)I know there are some secrets that need to be kept (I.E. Troop movements and positions, new superweapons, etc...) but the reality is that if a government has too many secrets it chooses to keep from its citizens, then that government will tend to lose legitimacy.
I would imagine that the secrets guarded most closely are about the levels of corruption within the "representatives" in government and just how much they are actually benefiting from the positions of trust to which they were elected. I already have a healthy mistrust of government. I would prefer to know about those things they think would "scare" me.
That way, an idiot like Trump wouldn't really have anything to hold over anyone's head.
