MAGA Luncheon

Ok so some of you know that I have 2 non-deplorable MAGA friends (I know, I know...is there such a thing as non-deplorable MAGA?!). Well I hardly post on here but always read what's on here every single day.

So we 3 have had a few political discussions in the past when we'd gone out for lunch or dinner and made a decision one day to never talk politics again

Well one of them invited us both over to her house for lunch today. She made a lovely lunch for us. At one point, though, she had to say "I don't want to talk politics but what happened yesterday was despicable for this country!" I said "You two can talk about this when you're alone together." That discussion then ended

Then later the other one brought up the Nashville shooting and they both said these meds made the trans person want to shoot people. I said "Then what about the other 100 mass shootings this country has had. Those weren't trans people!" I was so close to saying "They probably were MAGA people even though MAGA still was not a thing when some of these shootings happened." But I didn't say anything more

Then the hostess said "They're saying all the other previous shooters were trans too!'" I said "No, they weren't!!" We then ended that discussion

But why wasn't I quick thinking enough to say "If all those other shooters before were trans, why did that never come up before?? Why is it only with this trans shooting, that they are saying on Fox News and other RW media (or whatever these people read and watch) that all the previous shooters were also trans??! Don't you think FN would have brought that up before if they had all been trans??" Unfortunately I am never quick thinking enough!

But, anyway, this is where their thinking is. Just wanted to share!

1. At the risk of sounding argumentative.

I would say that your friends do have some deplorable traits. They seem willing to
blame gender identity for mass shootings. They also seem unwilling to accept any accountability for Trump.
This is in the face of unprecedented corruption and graft.

Sometimes they are members of your own family and you can’t just write them off.

Edit: Next time ask them who “they” are saying shit to them. And, why they take bullshit at face value.

and family but if it is for prolonged periods it just doesn't seem to work without something coming up. The biggest thing for me is - disappointment. I especially hate when my sister shows her colors when it comes to issues like religion and politics and overt racism. I hate it but it is real. I think this constant bombardment of news, information, and social media has caused a lot of the divide. In the old says, Nixon for example, we heard info on the evening news or newspaper and that was about it. Even people in his own party did not accept bad behavior. These days even religion divides people because everything has become political.

10. Perhaps they have redeeming qualities, but....

I can't imagine how those "redeeming qualities" could compensate for their MAGAt-ness.

Personally, I have some Republican friends, but I don't have any MAGAt friends. I have no patience or tolerance for MAGAts.

I do know where their thinking is, and it's a deal-breaker for me.

Honestly, I don't associate with people with whom some topics aren't up for discussion. There's just no point. I can handle differences of opinion. I can't handle willful stupidity.

If we don't talk politics, I really do enjoy their company

Ha ha...yes, if the discussions had gone any further, I would have felt like showering afterwards!

I agree...back in the Nixon days, Republicans were on board with Nixon's impeachment because they didn't have Fox News and other Right Wing media or Republican politicians ramming it down their throats 24/7 that Nixon is a good person!

I don't want to talk politics, but this.

What she wanted to do was spout her BS and it just end there.

If you don't want to talk politics, then don't. She did. I applaud your resolve.

15. It's not "Talking Politics" it's showing your values, humanity and conscience

People say “Don’t talk politics” but is so much more than who you vote for because who you vote for reveals:
—your respect for others
—your tolerance for others
—your love for humankind
—your commitment to help others less fortunate
—your selfishness or selflessness
—your ideals about how you stand with others

Etc.
Please don’t cloak it simply as “talking politics.”
