Ohio lawmaker falsely claims to have graduated from MIT

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A freshman Ohio state representative who has already come under scrutiny for belatedly or never reporting 18 tax liens and $1.45 million in outstanding debts is now falsely claiming that he graduated from MIT.

David Dobos, a Republican from suburban Columbus, states on both his campaign site and official House webpage that he is a graduate of the prestigious university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. But that is not true, according to Sarah McDonnell, MIT’s deputy director of media relations.

“Dobos attended MIT as an undergraduate student in economics from September 1973 -August 1977; February 1978 – January 1979; and February 1980 – May 1980,” McDonnell wrote in an email. “No MIT degrees were conferred.”

Despite that, Dobos has been active with MIT’s alumni community. He has been involved with the MIT Club of Central Ohio, has an MIT alumni email address, and was on the fundraising committee for the Class of 1977′s 45th reunion last year.
