Watch what's happening in Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Idaho & other red states that are rapidly becoming fascist dystopias--denying women, people of color, voters, retirees, families, and children their rights. This is America's nightmare now. It is much bigger than Trump.

In fact, one of the problems of the national obsession with the Trump show is that it has us distracted from where the extremist wave he rode is now taking us. There are many dangerous leaders, not just one, a movement that goes beyond MAGA.

Compounding the danger from them is the compliance and support of the institutions of the GOP--the party, the donor base, the leadership, think tanks and special interest groups. Governments are taking domain over the bodies of women and children to impose theocratic values...

...the date back centuries but were always, regardless of the era, considered oppressive. A minority is silencing the majority. State by state. Vote by vote. Courts are stacked wherever possible to be compliant. Media outlets traffic in propaganda.

Sure, let's keep an eye on Trump. Let's ensure he continues his political losing streak. But please, follow these state and local stories and fight back (as the people of Wisconsin did yesterday, as the voters did in last year's midterms.)

Our national character is at stake. Our future and our values are at risk. It has all gone too far...well beyond the worst nightmares many of us had in the past.

We just had a newly elected state rep flip to the Republican party, giving them a super majority to override our Democratic governor's veto.

Two definitions of freedom.

In the Red States, freedom is definied as guns plus the freedom to be awful to one another.

In the Blue states, freedom is living your life as you see fit, good paying jobs, control over your own body, decisions for families to make regarding what their children watch and read etc.

It's a divide that's growing. There's reasons that the bottom 15 states for crime, poverty, education, incarceration, incomes, health care, and opportunity are almost all red states. They're turning their red states into 3rd world states.

6. Fascist dystopias in America

Existed well before Trump was ever around and will be around well after he’s gone.

It’s been woven into the fabric of America since the beginning, along with apple pie and mom. The Nazis in Germany studied America’s brand of fascism before putting their own stamp on it. Trump made it boil and normalized it.

It’s why they are so against Critical Race Theory. It exposes us for who we really are and busts the American mythology they need everyone to believe.

American didn’t suffer so much…never invaded, or in danger of…guess decided didn’t need them.

Mistake! As is now abundantly clear.

I don't think that even people on DU understand this well enough.

Racial Laws in AMERICA were part of the basis for what the Nazis did in Germany. Rachel Maddow also did an excellent podcast "Ultra" on just how much influence the German government in the 1930's and 40's had in the United States with several prominent politicians openly siding with the Nazis and several violent coup plots being planned and even attempted. No one ever got in trouble for that, except for losing elections and fading into obscurity.

We have NEVER reckoned with our own past of White Supremacy in the United States. We have not fully dealt with the FACT that Africans were brought here and BRED for slavery here. We have never reckoned nor do I think most people know that the government attempted to genocide entire groups of Indigenous people.

The legacy of those things are still with us today, while so many of us talk about "America is the greatest country on Earth!"

After waiting for an appointment for 5 months. 5 months!

It's virtually impossible to register to vote in TX without your current address accurate DL.

My mom is 78, and if I didn't know how to pull extra documents to prove where she lived from her phone app, it was going to be another 5-6 month wait for a new appointment.

Mom is intelligent and doesn't have dementia, or any other major issues... Just a normal person in their 70's.

If you are in a blue state, you have no idea how dab it is in a state where they spend millions on local school board elections to push their and drag queen, 10 commandments posting, anti-book agenda. It's insane up in here. Meanwhile, the graft is so much they cannot get something simple done like vehicle inspections killed.

The GOP propaganda channels, Fox News, and Christian megachurches are leading this country off a cliff, and I feel like things are going to get way worse before they get better. If we don't address the sheer damage that right wing propaganda is doing to this country, we're fucked.

You are correct.

It's at the local level too.

Let's see how they like full-on fascism. I think a lot of them won't appreciate consequences like medical professionals from their states. A lot of them are going to die. Unfortunately, so are a lot of Democratics. My heart goes out to the blue-voting victims of these regimes.

I hope these states aren't too far gone for backlash to reverse the policies eventually.

It looks dire, but Gen Z is giving me hope for the future. This sounds a bit morbid, but the dwindling of the Silent Generation is helping our prospects on the vote margins as well.

This is a national picture, but it shows the future of voting, which will impact these fascist red states eventually:
