The Purina case should have put him out of the running before anyone ever heard of Anita Hill
But everybody knows about

(2,143 posts)Thanks for the TOONs. There's lots to be outraged about in today's news, perfectly reflected in these cartoons.

(6,209 posts)Let's get fair and equal justice back into our Democracy.
Please don't tell me we will lose the "good" congress members with the bad because the GQP is a hair's breadth away from one-party rule.
They would use the Constitution for kindling if given a few more years to dismantle all of our rights and protections.

(37,162 posts)Term limits transfer the real power farther away from voters. It takes experience and skill to do things within government, there will always be a "permanent government" of the people who know those processes, how to get things done or keep things from getting done. Term limits makes every office-holder a neophyte dependent on somebody else for that knowledge.
Whether it's hired staff, lobbyists, or people who effectively act as both, those would be the people getting their agenda advanced and blocking reform attempts; politicians would be disposable front-men for an actual "deep state".
And the Right devotes a lot more money to that sort of targeted influence than anybody else does, it's why things are so dire right now. I see no reason to aid them in delivering the coup de grace.

(6,209 posts)...... change it.
Take just one topic, guns. How many children need to be killed before we decide to fight back a different way?
If you can control the guns control the ammo. The powder, the brass, the primers, the reloading equipment, and of course, the projectiles.
And before anyone gets excited, I own guns and have had a concealed carry permit since late 1960.
All my guns are secured where no one has access.
Don't tell me there is nothing we can do. Because unless we try, we will never know what we can accomplish.
Wisconsin just elected progressive Supreme Court justice after 15 years of RWNJ controlling the entire state to their liking.
Oh, and while we are at it, let's put Trump in the federal pen for the next decade or so.

(3,523 posts)I am curious why you feel the need to be able to carry a concealed handgun on yourself.
It is hard to imagine any reason other than self defense. And then that leads right into the pro gun arguments against any sort of restriction on guns or ammo.

(6,209 posts)As I said, ALL of my guns stay LOCKED in a safe. I have not carried in better than 30 years except when I go hunting.
My original point was I own guns. I am not anti-guns. I am for stricter control of guns so that innocent people (KIDS) are not killed in their schools.
I have never pulled my gun and fired it at anyone.
The most my handgun (in the last 40 years) was used for was to teach my kids the safe handling of weapons.
I have two cars. The kids are gone. In the last four years (COVID), the total mileage COMBINED is less than 2000 miles. Yet I renew all my licenses when they come due. Yes, Including concealed carry.
I have a shop full of tools, but I don't pull them out and use them every day.
And for what it is worth, I am ex-military like my dad before me and his dad before him. I gave up my subscription to the NRA the minute they became radical to the point where EVERYONE should have GUNS.
Answer your question.

(3,523 posts)the fact that you have had a concealed carry permit for decades. Is that my business? No. Of course not. And if you hadnt wanted to answer my question, I would have been fine with that. But since you had publicly posted that you have a concealed carry permit, and have had it for decades I hardly think it is an unreasonable question to ask, in the same forum, what your reasoning for having one is.

(6,209 posts).....I am classified as an anti-gun nut who wants to take all our guns away.
NOT true. I just what reasonable control. Like, I don't want some 17 or 18-year-old crossing the state line with an AR-style gun, then killing two people and getting away with it.
Or going into a school and killing dozens. Over the years, I have qualified to carry a gun, BUT I am not capable of carrying or using a gun in schools where hundreds of screaming, frightened kids and people are running. Teachers are not, for the most part, ex-combat vets who have been shot at and know how to pick a target.
Teachers carrying guns will cause more innocent deaths, in my opinion, not less.
I believe in early April this year, we have already had 125+ mass shootings in the US.

(3,523 posts)You clearly are not anti-gun.

(6,209 posts)..... truthful argument each time I lobby for better gun control laws.
Usually, saying I have a carry permit (again true) stops the you are anti-gun.

Sidenote: When Russia invaded Ukraine, and Tuckems was pimping for Putin, I wanted to send Fish-stix a ticket to Moscow (one way, of course) and actually looked up airline prices. However, the sanctions prevent travel between USA and Russia.
Thank you!
