Yes, Trump was arrested and indicted. It's long past time. Yipee!
Then he got on his private jet and flew to his resort hotel home in Florida to dinner, after which he promptly resumed his efforts to taint the jury pool and attack the DA and judge, and to rally public opinion among deplorable Americans to try and avoid justice. Talk about trying to rig the system!
How does that happen? I don't give a damn that he's the former president, any common American who attacked a judge and a DA like he did, and continued to do so after being warned not to in the court room would be put in jail and held over for trial. Trump, well, there's not even a gag order. THAT'S NOT JUSTICE.
What other privileges and luxuries are being planned for him? A suite in the Waldorf Astoria for a prison cell if he is convicted?
Two different Americas.

(11,767 posts)You are talking about at minimum, a social democratic viewpoint or a socialist one.
Trump's treatment is part and parcel of our Capitalist system. People think that real Democratic government and Capitalism are compatible. Our American mythology is steeped in the idea.
People with access to money and the power that money buys or conversely, power, and the money that power brings, will always be able to subvert democratic ideas and institutions.
It is the same reason why people caught with a couple of grams of cannabis sit in jail for years while the Sackler family, who perpetuated the Opioid Crisis on America, are billionaires.
We need to significantly restrain and regulate the Capitalist system we have here in America, or get rid of it. Until we do, we will always have people who accumulate wealth and power, and use that wealth and power to subvert justice.

(96,882 posts)The OP was with respect to the NY charges. The others will come when they're ready. Jack Smith is hauling people before a Grand Jury right now. Maybe you feel he shouldn't need any additional evidence?

(7,046 posts)against a DA and a judge, which are illegal.
Over 500 have already been prosecuted in January 6th trials. So now that you mention it, since it has been well over two years, I tend to think we should be pretty close to indicting and prosecuting. Or will this be on the docket in 2025 or 2026?

(96,882 posts)Other than a mug shot (not needed because everyone knows what he is), this was handled in a matter appropriate to the charges. The Judge will decide on a gag order if deemed appropriate, not in order to make the blogosphere happy.

(7,046 posts)The threats he made against the DA and Judge would have put anyone else in confinement until trial. But a privileged, rich, ex-president, well, we're going to slap him on the wrist, click our tongues, tsk tsk tsk, say, "You better not say anything threatening," and then make sure he has enough time to get dinner before going on television and ignoring everything the DA told him not to do.
A gag order, or simply jailing him until trial would not be vengeance, it would be the same thing that every other American would experience for doing the same thing.

(385 posts)for being a rational person. I understand the emotions tRump awakens and riles up, but the system that is responsible for this indictment took a long time to arrive at the conclusion. Now we are in another phase of the process and I still hear the same old complaints of the process not going fast enough or not being mean enough to the defendant...It is almost as if tRump's sick illegality has started to infect them...I have some faith in how this will go. It is almost as predictable as the trial of John Gotti. tRump is done.

(7,046 posts)Trump be treated like anyone else would be, because it is clear that he is getting much more favorable treatment. He threatened a DA and a judge, which warrants at least a gag order. And yeah, I know, it's all laid out and a long arraignment with questioning wasn't necessary, but neither you or I would be free, at home, in front of a microphone criticizing the judge and DA who had just charged us. If we'd have done what he did before his indictment, we'd have been held and marked as a potential threat.
So let's be rational, and be fair and treat Trump the way any other indicted criminal would be treated.

And while I'm at it, taxes should be determined by what you have left after paying them, not by how much you paid.
