The Abortion Ban Backlash Is Starting to Freak Out Republicans

The 11-point loss of the Republican-aligned candidate in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election on Tuesday has influential conservatives rethinking this strategy. “Republicans had better get their abortion position straight, and more in line with where voters are, or they will face another disappointment in 2024,” said a Wall Street Journal editorial.

Ann Coulter tweeted, “The demand for anti-abortion legislation just cost Republicans another crucial race,” and added, “Please stop pushing strict limits on abortion, or there will be no Republicans left.” Jon Schweppe, policy director of the socially conservative American Principles Project, lamented, “We are getting killed by indie voters who think we support full bans with no exceptions.”

But having made the criminalization of abortion a central axis of their political project for decades, Republicans have no obvious way out of their electoral predicament. A decisive majority of Americans — 64 percent, according to a recent Public Religion Research Institute survey — believe that abortion should be legal in most cases. A decisive majority of Republicans — 63 percent, according to the same survey — believe that it should not. When abortion bans were merely theoretical, anti-abortion passion was often a boon to Republicans, powering the grass-roots organizing of the religious right. Now that the end of Roe has awakened a previously complacent pro-choice majority, anti-abortion passion has become a liability, but the Republican Party can’t jettison it without tearing itself apart.

The reason voters think Republicans support full abortion bans, as Schweppe wrote, is that many of them do.

Putin was furious at the collapse of the USSR and blamed the US.
He vowed revenge. He sucked out all of the money from the Russian economy and
became the richest man in the world. Spending his fortune on installing his puppets
throughout Europe and the US.

His goal is to damage western democracies via spreading chaos, division, hatred, revenge,
violence. He funds terrorist groups, including the NRA.
He wants to break up the US.

The GOP agrees with Putin, they spout his talking points every day and in every way.
They want what Putin has, total permanent power and access to all national assets.
The GOP follows the KGB handbook to the letter. Create fear, terror to make a docile population.
Demonize various groups like women, POC, LGBT, etc to create hatred and division.

We know Trump was installed by Putin, Members of Congress have opening supported Putin.
They are on Putin's payroll.

Putin has been so successful weakening the US he was emboldened to invade Ukraine.
China has also aligned with Russia, sharing the same dream of shifting world power.
Their goal is to make autocracies, fascist governments the dominant form of government on the planet.
And to control the world's wealth.

It does not make one damn, full, partial, three-eighths. A woman seeking medical health care via abortion is none of you ghouls business. But if religious zealots insist then let’s do away with the separation of church and state. Turn loose the assessors and we will quickly discover what church’s value.

Equal parts ignorance and hate gets ya a Republican.

They’re just working toward that. But that’s the ultimate goal: To DO AWAY WITH women’s rights. And take OUR control of OUR bodies and OUR lives away from us.

They’ll have their “fun” now. But they’ll PAY in 2024. I bet we keep the White House, get the House back, and expand our lead in the Senate.

I also bet they won’t learn a single thing from that, either. They refuse to accept that they’re swimming against a mighty tide. And they haven’t even considered what’s likely to be a tsunami of younger voters who are wide awake now.

This and guns are perfect for Republicans. It stems from Atwater’s God Guns and Gays. With one mention of each Republicans have massive swaths of voters in their pocket. Never have to spend another resource for their vote.

What happened is is that the activists got involved in all levels, then they moved up. Requirements for access rights to a local hospital including specific distance, wild unaffordable equipment requirements, and even zoning. They got creative. They got money and moved up. There’s always money in both guns and life.

The top lost control and it soon engulfed them.

Side note - the origins of pro-life come from Paul Weyrich tapping into the evangelicals to protect racist colleges’ tax exempt status. Bob Jones U specifically.

The Real Origins of the Religious Right
They’ll tell you it was abortion. Sorry, the historical record’s clear: It was segregation.

I remember hearing some knuckle-dragger calling into the local talk radio station I used to listen to, who said in all seriousness that “this country started going downhill when women got the right to vote.”

Seriously. No lie. No exaggeration, either.” I was driving and I remember gazing at my car radio, mouth agape, struggling to believe I’d just heard what I heard. Well, dude, whoever you are, wherever you are, you just fucked over half the population of America. Actually, by now, it’s slightly MORE than half.

The “Woman as Property” crowd has a lot to celebrate today.

And even when they deign to write any kind of exemptions into their stupid laws, they make sure to word them so vaguely that doctors can't figure out what's allowed and what isn't, AND they make the penalties for making a mistake so steep that everyone's afraid to chance it. The result is a de facto complete ban on abortion.

It's like they're playing a sneaky little game of "Watch us ban abortion completely without saying we're banning abortion completely!"

These damned neanderthals are threatening a hell of a lot more than women's healthcare rights. They want to put women under their thumbs and force them out of their careers and back into the kitchen.
