(54,881 posts)This ruling implies that the medication isn't "safe" for a zygote/embryo, not the host mother.

(17,417 posts)But there was a thread on DU saying we shouldn't criticize folks that didn't, or don't vote.

(43,115 posts)I don't think that's what the poster was saying. The question in that post was whether criticizing non voters does any good.
The poster seemed to think such posts were preaching to the choir.
This would be an ideal time to put up a poll asking how many are registered voters and who vote.
Should break down by primaries and general election.
Won't be scientific but it's better than nothing.

This is OT, too, but since the topic of "what good does it do?" has been brought up, ever since trump has been indicted, I've noticed the big-time bellyachers have been rather quiet. My question would be what good does it do to come on this board and predict all their gloom and doom?
Some people seem to think it's healthy to vent, but studies in psychology suggest otherwise.
However, it is a fact that emotions are contagious and when people come on here and talk about how depressed they are over republican crap, it only serves to affect the emotions of others. They are not contributing to the overall good. Instead they are negatively affecting it.

(43,115 posts)lurking republicans love that kind of stuff.

(8,196 posts)Im all for shaming non-voters. If people cant be bothered to vote, they deserve to be ashamed. Our democracy depends on them, and theyve let us down.

There is no legal basis for the judiciary to reach in and undo a decades-old medical approval by the FDA. Ignore it, call their bluff and let the Texan rednecks try to do something.

(25,916 posts)Won't it be hard to ignore when pharmacies no longer carry the med because they feel obligated to follow the ruling and fear legal and financial consequences of continuing to carry and sell it?
NJCher
(43,115 posts)but I think there will be such confusion that it might not do any good.

(22,182 posts)I've gotten pissed and advocated the same thing, but on second thought, do we really want to short circuit rule of law? The ruling will certainly die on appeal, so maybe let the system work instead? Frustrating as it is at times. Otherwise we open a whole can of worms with Repuke administrations ignoring the courts and rule of law means less and less. That's not a place I want to live in.

stopdiggin
(15,422 posts)rule of law is rather important. Breaking said laws should not be done without serious consideration. And - when protesting or circumventing unjust or bad law .... Protesters must accept that there are possible (and quite legal) punishments in store. And 'systems' must be aware that there are consequences to bad law - and laws routinely flouted.

(4,723 posts)Is one of a thousand knife strikes. Each measure to counteract that should be a calculated one. Im not sure ignoring asshats is wise. From my perspective a silent response is permission with these dangerous fools.
I'm all over the place on strategy. Our silence is partly what got them to this point.
Now rethugs are fighting in court to make it clear that pro-choice Americans are going to have to eat their sexist elephant one bite at a time.
Hoping the Garland response is also calculated to stop all this agency control through courts down the road.

(4,723 posts)Our conversation at brunch today. The only absolute action to avoid being caught in a life threatening pregnancy in this country is to avoid sex with sperm carriers and if threatened with rape, be prepared to fight for your life. I cant believe this is what my country has become. My heart goes out to the young women here. I feel for everyone but especially those carrying viable eggs.

(43,303 posts)This situation you so precisely describe is exactly why Dobbs and subsequent state laws so horribly nullify the freedoms of "life and liberty" for 51% of us.
That we'll have to, state by state, collect data on the loss, harm, and damage done to us,
then go through years of court motions, rulings, and appeals, is the erection and core of the christofascist battlements surrounding us.
That men choose to define the "rights" of the unborn as greater than those already alive and voting -- females and their families -- is a patriarchal evil. Beyond taxation without representation.
This is the rule of men takeover of rule of law.
