Watch out for Thrift Savings Plan underreporting of distributions!

My mother has required minimum distribution from her TSP.

I thought the annual TSP statement was light on distributions, so I took a closer look- and discovered it only covered the period from 26 May until year-end! The TSP person said it was because computer systems had been changed.

I got stymied trying to get full-year data from both TSP and the credit union, since I'm not the account holder.

Fortunately, I found a TSP deposit statement for one month in 2022, so I can estimate the total distribution for 2022.

BEWARE if you or loved ones are relying on an "annual statement" from the TSP to calculate what to report on tax returns!

I had to look this up. Although required minimum distributions (RMDs) apply to various kinds of retirement plans, apparently the TSP is specific to Federal government retirement savings. (nitpicked, please correct me if that’s not accurate.)
