If you had the power to create a world, is this what you would have done?

I mean, really. Who would have come up with the idea of fleas in order to make animals miserable? Who would have invented cockroaches? Who would have tossed STDs into the mix to have to make us occasionally pay for one of our too few pleasures?

And another thing. Would you come up with the idea of putting humans on the top of the chain? I, for one, would have picked dolphins or elephants. (I thought of putting cats in the running, but they have too much of a “Go away until I need you.” attitude.)

Then there’s the political world. Would you have numbed the minds of voters to where they’d spend their entire lives screwing themselves? For whatever reason, there must have been just a pinch of masochism thrown into that recipe. And as for political ideology in general, a sadist must have been hired to come up with most of it.

I know that there are countless things about this world that suck, and that each of us would have designed/created differently. Nonetheless, however we and our planet came to be, the flaws reek of (some intentional?/unintentional?) maliciousness.

Could any one of us have done a better job? Beats me.

P.S. Full disclosure. I’m a devout agnostic who would probably have fucked up our existence far, far worse than whoever/whatever caused us to be.

An all-knowing creator who would make this world but didn’t know what would happen?

I’m an atheist and there’s nothing devout about it. It’s just all so much nonsense.

Would you have created a race of angels, ageless and immortal…then created a miserable race of sentient humans condemned to mortality, pain, wars, disease, fear and every other conceivable affliction and then demanded their unconditional, unswerving fealty?

Maybe if I was one of those kids who tortures animals for funsies.

The only thing that matters in this eternal universe is your story.

Make it a good one.

Not something like this:

If you were founding a country, is this - 43,000 dead children per year due to shootings - what you would have done?
THIS is the argument SCOTUS needs to contemplate (if I believed they ever rule in good faith). That their reading of 2A is absurd, if you believe the Founders were not insane themselves.

How long do you think the airline industry would last?

Better yet, if 43,000 children were killed every year in crashes of Cessna Citations, how many more Citations would be allowed to be sold?

The current understanding of the 2A is beyond absurd, and Warren Burger said it right;

In the natural world, one species doesn't give a shit if it destroys other species as long as they survive and prosper.

Nature is cruel and heartless

Does it matter?

Ten million years from now our civilization of today will be a curious layer of crud in the geologic record.

Life will go on.

It's our choice as humans today if we choose to live on with the rest of that life.

Even if humans never existed, all species are destined to go extinct as they cannot adapt to changing conditions. Their only hope for long term, and I mean very long term, survival is human intervention

God's Kid Brother from the Dead Milkmen

… Are we not the living proof of the idiot God who placed us here
Are we not His dirty children, His unwashed sons who He holds dear

… Are we not the proof that there may've been another creator
If this is the ultimate truth, it had to come out sooner or later

… I've looked for the reason why we're here
I've kept on searching until it was clear
I've looked for excuses - can't find no other
We must be the product of God's kid brother

… Their ivy halls are closed to us
We scrape to survive and we taste the dust
The things that we weren't meant to know
Are spoke of in places where we can't go
So don't tell me you still find it hard to believe
That we were made by a different God

… Are we not the proof that there may've been another creator
Let's run to the volcano and toss a virgin in the crater

… I've looked for the reason why we're here
I've kept on searching until it was clear
I've looked for excuses - can't find no other
We must be the product of God's kid brother

It may have been better to have been born on version 2.0.

The believers will simply tell you that we don't understand the reasons for what HE does. Perhaps the great male being invented the world for the fleas, ticks, leeches and viruses and the other animals are just there to provide them free room and board. There are round-bouts three two and a half million species of life on Earth, it is pretty damn egocentric to believe it was made for one. Makes me wonder if the fleas have their own religions.

And some people are playing on a higher difficulty than others? As someone pointed out, God originally created the angels, but then some rebelled led by Satan according to the story. Maybe it's bad for us to have things too easy... like the kid who was spoiled rotten. Gotta earn your way to paradise by going through the gauntlet.

As for STDs, well that's easy lol. That could be seen as a punishment for non monogamous behavior. A lot of our problems are self created. Even most cancers are probably due to all the toxins we have contaminated the world with.

First, God asked the Englishman where he wanted to live.
"On an Island, please," was the response, which was granted.

Then, the Italian was asked where he wanted to live.
"Il Mare (the sea) " was the response, which was granted.

After that, the Swiss was asked where he wanted to live.
"The Mountains" he said, and added, "and with some cows, please." God said, well, OK, sure, but what for?
The Swiss said, "for this sweet fresh milk. Would you like to try some?"
God said, "well, uhh, sure, why not."
"How do you like it?" asked the Swiss. "Really good!" was God's answer.
"Was it to your liking?" asked the Swiss. "It sure was!" was God's answer.
"I'm glad to hear it," said the Swiss. "That will be two francs, please."
