NEW from Feinstein

“I understand that my absence could delay the important work of the Judiciary Committee, so I’ve asked Leader Schumer to ask the Senate to allow another Democratic senator to temporarily serve until I’m able to resume my committee work.”

Feinstein on returning to Washington

“I intend to return as soon as possible once my medical team advises that it’s safe for me to travel. In the meantime, I remain committed to the job and will continue to work from home in San Francisco.”

https://www.rules.senate.gov/rules-of-the-senate

In the appointment of the standing committees, or to fill vacancies thereon, the Senate, ( not the leadership)unless otherwise ordered, shall by resolution appoint the chairman of each such committee and the other members thereof. On demand of any Senator, a separate vote shall be had on the appointment of the chairman of any such committee and on the appointment of the other members thereof. Each such resolution shall be subject to amendment and to division of the question.

Italics are mine.

So, even if DiFi were to resign, her replacement on the judiciary committee would have to be approved by the whole senate, meaning 60 senators, including at least 9 Republicans, would have to vote for her replacement on the committee.

So, unless/until DiFi recovers and can fulfill her duties on the judiciary committee, it appears the republicans can block confirmation of Biden’s nominees for the rest of his term.

I told them I wouldn’t donate again until they intervened with Diane Feinstein to have her resign from Judiciary so we could get judges appointed. I’m not so vain to think this mattered much, but was told others said the same thing. So money talks as we all know … I like Feinstein but her time of contribution has passed. Let someone like Schiff or Porter take the seat and run as an incumbent!
