Florida bill would give doctors and insurance companies freedom to deny care to patients

https://nbc-2.com/news/politics/2023/04/11/florida-bill-would-give-doctors-and-insurance-companies-freedom-to-deny-care-to-patients/

The free State of Florida is considering a bill that will give doctors and insurance companies more freedom. It’s the freedom to drop a patient and not pay for their health care based on what they’re calling “conscience-based objection.”

A closer examination of HB1403 raises the concern it could allow physicians to discriminate against women, minorities or those in the LGBTQ community — and the bill is raising the blood pressure of patients like Connie Valier.

“But medical care? I am frustrated and I’m angry. Very angry,” Valier said.

Her concern is that doctors and insurance companies could deny treatment and payment if they feel the patient goes against their religious, moral or ethical beliefs.

“They have an oath to go by and none of this judgment. It’s like this is a patient who needs help and you’re going to say no,” Valier stated.

Florida is still part of the country, which still is under the jurisdiction of the Constitution. The taxpayers are going to spend a fortune defending all this junk in court.

I don't think those Floridians who voted for DeSantis or the Republican majority actually care!

As with all bigots, they're more than happy that the people they hate will end up suffering...besides DeSantis and his Fascist controlled legislature and judiciary...will figure out way to make the groups he hates, foot the bill...just like Hitler made the Jews pay for all of the damage on Kristallnacht!

Left-leaning doctors can deny gun-humping neo-Nazi fascist fucks their needed care too, right?

Oh, wait, THAT will still be illegal because IOKIYAR always applies

and they get mad when someone else tries to use it. i think there is a lawsuit out there right now from a Jewish group that believes, from a religious standpoint, that abortion is justified in some cases, and as such they are suing under one of those "religious freedom" bills saying their religious freedom is being violated. i assume it will go to SCOTUS, who will laugh in their faces

Seems like that's an automatic dodge for denying any claim.

The incredible volume of bad laws getting rubber-stamped in Florida is breathtaking.

The first words of the oath you take when you become a doctor are, "First, do no harm." How is denying care to people who need it "doing no harm"? They should all lose their licenses. You want to be a religious kook? Go join the ministry. You want to be a doctor? TREAT PATIENTS.

and if they are denying care and causing harm their board certification should be suspended or revoked so they can't practice medicine.

For both its residents and tourists. And it's too bad because parts of Florida are beautiful. But I won't be going there.
