He graduated high school in 1987, college in 1991 and law school in 1994. That would make him around 40-41 years old in that 2011 clip.

(32,731 posts)Also a slight cop vibe, but not rogue/hypocritical cop like comey. I'm sure his participation could be looked into from the voter rolls but I don't know what state he lives in currently. New York still???

(108,991 posts)to endorse anyone in elections. We can't know about his vote, of course.

(73,605 posts)you have "never gotten an answer." That's the answer.

(15,475 posts)Maybe a video or social media post from 5 years ago will reveal it. Everyone has a past trail.
H2O Man
(73,605 posts)I do not think that there is any reason to think there is any trail. Very few, if any, would have any idea who he voted for. Those who might know definitely wouldn't say. Those who might say definitely don't know. Some people take the position that they are in seriously. Mr. Smith is serious to the point one might view him as rigid ..... in a good way. Despite all the evidence from recent years, there are individuals with character.

(15,475 posts)Unless he hated politics and didn't vote, it always comes up in the workforce and/or around friends that you hang out with. Guaranteed someone in 2012 and 2016 asked him questions like this:
"What do you think about this election?"
"I'm for Romney, how about you?"
"I hate that guy Trump, can you believe the things he says?"
"I can't believe Republicans are holding a Supreme Court seat hostage!"
I see no reason why he wouldn't answer. He didn't know he's be a Special Counsel in the future.

(73,605 posts)known nationally to everyone paying attention 10+ years ago. Some people follow the DOJ etc. Others don't. He has already had a remarkable career, before being tasked with the current investigations. He has been a serious man since he went to college near me, and I suspect before that. There is absolutely no reason to assume Mr. Smith spoke politics with anyone who would be prone to speak about it now, in order to satisfy the curiosity of those who never heard of him before. The links in the OP show a serious man, intent upon investigating and prosecuting corruption. People in that business are not noted for running their mouth. That does not depend in any way on if others "see no reason" why serious people behave in the manner they do.

(73,605 posts)grew up near two of my relatives, both FBI agents. One is retired, and his Dad passed away. In all the time I was around them, they never spoke about politics -- and at family reunions, especially after beer was consumed, people discussed & argued about politics. To this day, I have no idea if either one was even registered.
My father was one of 14 first generation Irish. So there were BCI Senior Investigators, FBI, and ONI at reunions. There are levels where many, if not most, are non-political. That doesn't translate to not recognizing th Bush/Cheney invasion of Iraq was not bullshit, or that Trump is not a sociopath.
However, at this point in time, I can say without any risk of error, yet with 100% humility, that today, it will be almost an exclusively republican exercise to identify/ misidentify Mr. Smith's political thoughts.

(32,731 posts)I thought his voice would be deeper, but it's pleasant and I like the accent. I feel positive after hearing his voice and the substance of what he said, especially compared to how I felt when I first heard Mueller's voice.
