WI: Protestors sing 'Rainbowland' ahead of Waukesha School board meeting
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fallout continues after a Waukesha Elementary school prohibited first graders from performing a 2017 Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton song for their spring concert.
Hyer Elementary School voted down the song nearly three weeks ago.
The decision was made by the school's principal, Mark Schneider, and Melissa Yow, Director of Elementary Learning.
The song was picked by first grade teacher Melissa Temple.
Temple spoke out against the decision to the media.
Since then, a Waukesha parent group, Alliance for Education in Waukesha, told CBS 58 Temple has been placed on administrative leave.
Wednesday, April 12, dozens of people came to the Waukesha School Administration building to voice their opposition for the removal of the song and Temple.
Members of the Waukesha community sang 'Rainbowland' accompanied by a tiny music speaker.
The singing protest took place hours before a Waukesha School Board meeting, which was open to public comment.
