(47,377 posts)You should hear this story about what happened once to me and the IRS.
One year they owed me money and sent me a refund with a couple of extra zeros in the check.
I thought I would die it was so much money.
I sent it back right away since I didn't want to go to prison.
They sent it back to me again, insisting it was correct.
I sent it back again and damn they sent it back a third time.
My friends all said I should cash it and head to Mexico but I didn't fancy
going to federal prison.
I finally called my US senator and talked to an attorney and got it sorted out.
At first it was funny, then I lost some sleep over it.

(10,207 posts)They offer old folks free exercise clases at the senior citizen center. I take the classes as rehab from a hip injury.
Everyone one of those middle class over 65 widows had to pay a fine when they made mistakes on their taxes after their husbands died. Everyone of them.
So the poor widow gets to pay IRS fines due to being in the fog of grief. But Clearance gets all sorts of free bees and gets away with the most blatant corruption.
Yeah, that's how the US rolls.

(6,921 posts)and should not have happened to those wodiws. But I also wonder under what administrations the incidents happened I know the Biden administration is aware of inequitoes and is working with Congress to change the policy. Certainly funding is a factor, but so are priorities, and I'm pretty sure both are being addressed.

It doesn't feel special to me. I just think reddit must be crazy and the

But that may be as good as I am going to get.

(47,377 posts)I think low key, humble, but very courageous is special.
Like a lot of people here.
I am on a number of forums and get good feedback.
But here on DU I get some support, but typically ignored or get the crap beat out of me.
But I love it here the most, because so many here are very smart, sophisticated, knowledgable and
just plain nice. And I get called out and taken to task. It takes courage to post, but that is good.
Make me go outside my comfort zone.
You seem pretty special yourself.

(47,377 posts)My cousins from Boston used to travel by car to Ohio.
They would arrive and get out of the car and say how the hell can you guys eat all this corn.
We would laugh and say we don't eat all of it, most of it is feed corn for livestock.
Or goes to corn syrup.
I love the smell of the cornfields at night. The smell is intoxicating.
And the fields are beautiful in the daytime.
housecat
(3,121 posts)up to me I would get livestock out of slaughter houses and into fields eating grass. So we don't eat anything with four legs or fur, and definitely not corn syrup.

A stupid, lecherous fiend - but who considers himself untouchable, and enjoys the idea of others being outraged at his lawlessness.
On his own, he can't do or think of anything. He thinks his family were loudmouthed idiots.

(4,741 posts)Really.
The Satanists have explicit rules supporting bodily autonomy, and that prohibit rape, harming children, and cruelty to animals.

Most of those rules are more moral than anything out of the Abrahamic religions.

(21,664 posts)I meant "dark" - the kind of fiend who'd gladly slit a chicken's throat (or possibly even a child's) because he think it'll give him "good luck." I shall edit accordingly.
But these things, as you know, do happen. And when the powerful or well-connected do it, who's to know?
If anything, I suspect, the opposite is true: it might bring them bad luck - on account of all that very negative energy they're releasing when they harm someone or something (Thomas, I consider capable of almost anything - if he thinks it'll promote him).
Personally, I think the Christian icon - that of Christ basically being tortured - is a poor choice (nothing against Christians; am agnostic myself).
They're basically telling themselves, over and over, "I want my life to feel as though I was nailed to the wall."
I'm sure Osteen and the other holy rollers laugh all the way to the bank - after slitting a chicken's throat or something, of course.
