Anti drag Texas GOP rep is accused of "inappropriate relationship" with intern

USA TODAY interviewed Texas State Rep. Bryan Slaton last year for our deep-dive investigation into an all-age drag show that was protected by rifle-wielding left-wing activists. Slaton told us he believes all-age drag shows are put on by “perverted” adults seeking to take advantage of children.

This week, Slaton was accused of having an "inappropriate relationship" with an intern who is under 21 years old.

The Slaton scandal was reported by the Texas Tribune, which obtained a copy of the complaint against Slaton. The lawmaker has not been formally charged with a crime.

Slaton allegedly invited the intern, who is under 21, to his Austin condo where the two drank alcohol, according to the complaint.

Two of Slaton's GOP colleagues appear to call on him to resign following the revelations. "I am absolutely furious at a Republican whom I believe to be a sexual predator," state Rep. Briscoe Cain, wrote on Twitter without naming Slaton. "I’ve never been so ticked off at another legislator. He should resign now."

Slaton is a former youth pastor.

Seriously, what the hell? Aren't there any warning signs? Isn't anyone casting a critical eye on them before they start doing their damage?

Area GOP leaders asking prayers for Slaton
By Brad Kellar | Herald-Banner Staff Apr 12, 2023

Republican Party officials in two counties in Texas House District 2 are asking for prayers for state Rep. Bryan Slaton (R-Royse City), who faces allegations of improper behavior toward a staff intern.

Hunt County GOP Chairman David Hale and Hopkins County Chairman Donnie Wisenbaker said Wednesday that they are monitoring the situation.

“My understanding is there is an investigation under way,” Hale said. “I am hopeful that we will know the truth soon. Please keep all involved in your prayers.”

“The Hopkins County Republican Party encourages everyone to pray for the parties involved in this,” Wisenbaker said. “We also encourage everyone to cooperate with the investigation so that the facts can come out and we will know the truth.

Opinion: What’s “Highly Disturbing” Is Texas GOP Hatred of Trans Kids

Monday, State Rep. Bryan Slaton (R-Greenville) issued a statement begging Attorney General Ken Paxton to please make life a nightmare for trans kids in the state.

“Today I was joined by Representatives Brian Harrison, Tony Tinderholt, and Mark Dorazio in requesting AG Ken Paxton to review the highly disturbing ‘transgender students’ guidance that was recently published by the Texas Association of School Boards,” the statement read. “The guidance not only seems to encourage schools to refrain from reporting child abuse, but also claims that young girls have no protection from biological males being in their restrooms and locker rooms.”

The only thing “highly disturbing” is the Texas GOP’s ongoing hatred, yes hatred, of trans kids.

The TASB guidance for trans kids that Slaton referred to is an almost laughably reasonable collection of actions schools can take so that their non-cis students can lead happy, fulfilling lives free from official oppression. It includes such highlights as “yes, trans kids exist and are protected by federal law,” “gender-affirming social treatment reduces harm to trans kids,” and “no, your school should not go out of its way to target trans kids.” Jesus Christ himself couldn’t have written a more basic set of behavioral rules, and yet Slaton and his clan of ghouls act like it’s Nero’s tenets for a blood orgy.

A Local Texit Battle: Self-Governance or 'Seditious Treason'?
SIMONE CARTER MARCH 10, 2023 4:00AM

As chatter of a national divorce grows louder, at least one Texas lawmaker thinks the Lone Star State should be allowed to choose whether to go it fully alone.

Earlier this week, state Rep. Bryan Slaton of Royse City filed House Bill 3596, known as the “TEXIT Referendum Act.” It would allow Texans to vote in a referendum on whether the state should look into breaking free from the union.

Slaton’s bill specifies that on the referendum ballot, people would mull the following proposition: "Should the State of Texas reassert its status as an independent nation?"
