Judge Irma Carrillo Ramirez: Candidate for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
Judge Irma Ramirez has served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Texas since 2002. Previously, Judge Ramirez served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorneys Office for the Northern District of Texas from 1995 to 2002. Prior to that, she was as an associate at Locke Purnell Rain Harrell, PC from 1991 to 1995. Judge Ramirez received her J.D. from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1991 and her B.A. from West Texas State University in 1986.

She is nominated to fill the vacancy left behind by Obama-appointee, Gregg Costa. Gregg Costa announced his resignation in January 2022 and by the time it became effective several months later, there was still no nominee... until today.

But what's the strategy in us appointing 59 year olds to lifetime federal court positions when we know how important it is to hold those seats for decades?
Also do we even know if she can get confirmed since Feinstein is still out?
