Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump is a malicious, dangerous moron. But Ron DeSantis is pure evil.
Both of these men are a deadly threat to democracy and humanity.
Trump was born to wealth and taught to be a vicious, uncaring, narcissist and scam artist. Of late, he seems to have developed a "Jesus complex" which makes him even more of a dangerous moron than that which he's always been.
DeSantis, however, is a different kind of beast:
As the current Florida Governor, he's doing all he can to destroy the First Amendment. He's also banning books, destroying our educational system, trying to turn women into chattel, allowing anyone to carry a gun without a license, and doing everything he possibly can to turn the state into a horrible, dystopian nightmare.
Trump is an ignorant, malicious prick. DeSantis is highly educated, which makes him a more dangerous, malignant prick.
In the film, "Inglorious Bastards," the Nazi villain is turned free at the end of he war. Yet, the "good guys" burn a swastika onto his forehead using a branding iron. Perhaps, DeSantis should have "Educated Uncaring Prick" branded onto his forehead.

(23,709 posts)actually a whole lot of them are. Seems like it's a contest going on of who can be the most horrific.

(131,209 posts)is basically crapping all over the Constitution, no matter how you interpret it. TFG is a thug who doesn't know and doesn't care. I'm not sure which of them is more evil and I'm not sure it matters - it's just evil. Both have to be stopped. I think DeSantis might be more stoppable because he has all the charisma of a compost heap, and he seems to be fading already. TFG is also fading. But the evil he has unleashed is not - it will just inhabit another host.

(3,522 posts)Folks, think about that.
He has studied how to "work" the law. As an exceutive, and with wierding power over legislative and judicial, he knows how to bend the law to meet his objectives.
Ocelot II
(131,209 posts)and at least up to a point, how to do it. However, he can't cure his own blandly unpleasant personality. He has also been able to get away with turning Florida into North Korea with nicer beaches, because he operates entirely inside the bubble created by the GOP/MAGAt base that he's trying to lure away from TFG. While he may be book-smart, because he never leaves the bubble he might not have figured out yet that his fascism will not sell as well outside Florida.

If he's half as smart as he presents himself, he'll have engineers keeping that forest out in the oceans and Gulf. If not, he'll go for the fed state of emergency money, so he can blame Biden. Or he'll institute a state income tax to pay the astronomical costs of removing the 5-10 feet walls of seaweed once it hits the coasts. The mitigation for that will be too late, really, and will wreck the tourist based economy of the state.
I live here and don't want the state further impoverished because of his aggressive stupidity. And I hope Biden's FEMA won't help him, since there's nothing lost, harmed or damaged but tourism business.
If Florida's Republican women aren't already pissed off at him, he's still got 'til June to keep from losing the rest of Florida's Republican voters over this coastal pollution.

(82,293 posts)Trump is lower IQ than DeSantis and a bit more affable.
So we think he is a moronic buffoon.

(3,416 posts)The only thing that actually stopped Trump was his own greed, lust, and incompetence.
I hate to say something negative about my fellow Democrats and progressives, but *many* of the people who should have known better vastly underestimated Cheeto Benito.
It's so easy to hate him we've been blind to what an effective political force he was.
Sun Tzu would say 'NEVER underestimate your enemy'. We did and we lost, SCOTUS, our national prestige, and so much more.
DeSantis is much cagier. The only thing he doesn't have is Trump's charisma and utter shamelessness.
WE didn't beat Trump, President Biden didn't beat Trump, Trump's own hubris and arrogance beat Trump. DeSatan won't make nearly as many mistakes.

(15,909 posts)...DeSantis is faulted for not having as much "charisma" as Trump.
Clearly a lot of people susceptible to Trump's so-called "charisma" are out there, but, damn, I'll take dull and lifeless over that variety of supposed charisma any day.
If DeSantis can somehow win despite his lackluster personality, he's certainly more dangerous than Trump.

These guys always look so great on peper. Then you have to look at what they're doing with it. Suddenly, they don't look so good.
Floridians are either on board with this attempt to make Florida worse than North Korea. So many seem to be mean spirited enough to trash their own rights just on the off chance somebody else will be hurt by it, preferably a librul.
